What file storage service to use in 2012?

Hi everyone,

I searched for this and the thread that appeared was still suggesting megaupload. Could you advise me for an economic file hosting and sharing with password protected links?

basically. I want to create a squeeze page that gives people a free file (music, videos etc) ... until eventually I could sell them a big package (movie, music etc) , I would want the big package to be password encrypted so that people feel that they are buying something exclusive, that only people with the password can download.

I am still stuck at deciding what service is best for this .

could you guys help me out?

thanks

I like Dropbox. You also might just consider zipping your stuff and uploading to your host server, if you have a host.

    Amazon S3 without a doubt.

Having a password protected file on a file-sharing site is a very silly way of protecting content if that content is for many members. Anyone with that password can access the content. You should setup your own members area and then use a service like Amazon S3 to host those files and a tool like S3 Flowshield to protect the download links.

Google is about to release "Google drive" which gives 5 gigs free vs Dropbox 2gigs free, so that may a contender. But Dropbox is good I think.

I would go with Amazon S3 if you can afford to do so. One might say you can't afford NOT to as often times you pay one way or another...Either in storage/bandwidth fees or crappy, unreliable service that costs you sales.

  • I have been looking myself lately and I like the look of this Online Storage, FTP Site, FTP Server, File Sharing, Cloud Storage with Egnyte Cloud File Server

You can set up folders with user permissions so you could just send your customers and username and password for them to log in online and access their content.

Also has an FTP server so I can automate backups from Manage WP to the cloud storage.

it might be worth having a look at the free trial. $25 a month for 150GB.

I love drop box and now I can use it on my android phone as an app its an even bigger bonus. I can access my files easily from wherever i am.
I also like that you can just drag and save rather than having to constantly upload stuff online as you do with some online storage.

I see many drop box users here , I personally use drop box free account too , I have a shared folder with my partner and it works very well , and for our needs (we share document small files only) it's more than enough. Also you can get a lot of more free space if your friends join in!

There are many which will provide file hosting services. But why dont u try something which is exclusive and has a lot many features, onthenet or Hosted Desktop Provider , Business & Server Application
