I can tell you are new, because you want to build your list as fast as you can.

This is a poor move that will leave you with extremely low conversion rates, high spam complaint rates, and high auto responder costs.

I would much rather 10 people on my list that I have developed a personal relationship with and have gained their trust rather than 500 people who signed up through annoying popups or paid traffic and do not know me or do not wish to buy from me.

Just something to think about, hopefully this changes your mind about how you build your list because ultimately quality will win.

I've never actually dived into list building before, it has always been quite an interest to me. But the trick is to stick with one business model until you've made that a success, then move on to the next.

As guys mentioned, quality of your list is what matters. That's why I recommend you find a traffic source that matches your offers.

Targeted traffic is always important and in email marketing there's no exception to this rule. If you can, try to send a few "value" emails to your list before you even present them to any offer, this way you can build a relationship with them before the actual marketing.

The "value" emails should really contain valuable content. Try to share unique pieces of information that is nowhere else to be seen. If you simply purchase an autoresponder sequence out there and keep sending those pre-made messages to your list, chances are your conversion rates will be hurt by doing so.

Don't forget that you want to sound as much as a person as possible. People like to buy from people, not from companies. Of course it depends on the demographics of your traffic, but you can try sound in a more of a casual style in your emails and try to establish yourself as an authority within your market.

After a week or two, you may try sending out your first offer. Now there's been a lot of discussion lately about what is the best time to send out the first promotional email. Some people say a week after signing up, some people say two weeks and some people say 2 days.

I think it really depends on the nature of the traffic, on the market you are in, etc. As always, try to split test as much as you can to find the winner.

You can also split test email headlines to increase open rates a little.
