Hi, i'm medical student, and i'm creating site, where i want to publish free information about people health and interesting health disorders. I created it with joomla. And now, i don't know where to get images for my site. I have google adsense advertisments in my site, but i'm not selling any products, or having affiliate marketing, so can i put images where is restrictions for commercial usage? For example, can i use this picture from mayo clinics?

mayoclinic.com/health/medical/IM00124

And at the same time, i want to ask, if you can tell me commercial and non commercial site differences?
Thank you very much.
Sorry, for bad english...

    1. Advertisement on site = you (want to) make money = commercial.

    2. I don't think you can steal an image from any site - commercial use or not. It is a copyrighted material and you can NOT use it.

It makes no difference whether your site is commercial or non-commercial. They do have a copyright symbol right on that image. In addition, you have to request rights to republish it.

The issue of whether a given site is commercial vs. non-commercial may not be quite this simple. It will depend on how the given rights holder defines those terms.

For example, some hold that any site that attempts to make money is by definition a commercial site. Others rely on whether the attempt to make money is the primary reason for the site's existence. Many personal blogs that stick a few adsense ads up would be considered non-commercial. Still others define "commercial use" as inclusion in a product for sale.

Under the last definition, using an image to create a book cover would be considered commercial use. As would including the image in a collection for sale. Using it to illustrate a blog post, even if the site exists to make money, would not be considered a commercial use.

You have to consider the rights holder's definition and abide by any licensing conditions applied.

As Suzanne points out, though, you still have to honor copyrights. You can't just grab images willy-nilly and use them.
