Why did my traffic drop to 0 after changing website template designs?

Hi, I recently changed themes for my website. All I changed was the template layout. After I made this changed, my traffic, according to Google Analytics, has dropped to 0 for days. This doesn't make sense because I am ranked #1 for one of the keywords and believe that some traffic should still be coming. Do you have any idea why this is? Do you know how I can fix it?

Was your GA code part of your template?

If so, you may have accidentaly deleted it so analytics can't track your traffic. Just re-add the code to your blog if this is the case and reporting should continue as normal.

Agree with Midlands Marketer, Firstly check to see if your Google Analytics code is installed properly.

Firstly, check your template to ensure that you have the code installed.

The quickest way to do so(I am using Firefox may be different in IE) is to go to "tools' in your browser, go down to Web Developer, then hit page source.....

Next check where you installed the code " either header(top) or footer(bottom) of your page.

Also, if there is any code missing or out of place(even one character) it will not work...this applies to just about anything added through code...

Sometimes when we copy & paste codes(or even other methods) code fragments are left out.

So, if the code is present and it is in the correct place, yet it is not working, you probably should remove it and then reinstall the code
again....unless you can pinpoint the missing code fragments...and wish to just add them yourself.

Also, it would be a good idea if you could check your stats with another Analytics tool.

There are plenty of free tools out there.

Remember that Google Analytics in many cases will give you a much lower stat number than just about any other tool, whilst most other server side tools will give you much higher numbers....if you use Google Analytics(when working) and another tool, then just make an average count between the two, you will be much closer to your actual visitor numbers....

Just go and look for the code, and do a reinstall if needed.

If this does not work just leave a message to let people know this...

As everyone above said you probably deleted it when you changed templates. I've seen (and used) many templates where you can paste the Analytics code into the Theme Options. So if you're going to change your template around you may want to use a plugin for the Wordpress code so it doesn't get deleted.

As an alternative to the above, also make sure that the new template didn't reset settings and/or change your permalink structure. If your pages have new addresses, that could also be an issue.
