Why is this happening?

Hi Wariors,

This might be a dumb question, I bought a domain name and just configured a WP blog .if I type in my domain name www.mysite.com it resolves but the address comes up as
http://mysite.com instead of http://www.mysite.com. Why is that ? Is it a some kind of setting which causes it ?

Is it some kind of setting which causes this ? How do I make it resolve as http://www.mysite.com ?

Cheers
Melvin

It's a setting in your WordPress admin panel - go to Settings->General and edit your Wordpress address (URL).

What ever you do pick one format and stick with it. Open a Google webmaster acct and set the format the same as your wordpress setting to avoid canonicalization. Which is when the search engine will think that yourdomain.com, www.yourdomain.com, yourdomain.com/index.html, www.yourdomain.com/index.html are all seperate websites and thus possibally hand down a duplicate content penalty. Always use the same format to avoid this.

I agree with all the other comments. I would like to add that most newbies/non-IM'ers will always type in the www so that is the format I stick to.
