Is this solo ad legit?

Hi. I have a problem. I bought a solo ad last week, $20 for 150+ clicks. Results were decent for a $20 product. But when I checked my opt ins again, I realized some had the same ip address. ( correct me if I'm within but doesn't that mean the person or persons is using the same computer?)

I told myself ' coincidence' but this happened 3-4 times and the some up addresses are almost the same ( xxx.xx.xxx.199 , xxx.xx.xxx.200, xxx.xx.xxx.201) this means that they are using the same ISP in the same location right?

I don't want to be an alarmist but is this good or bad?

When buying solo ads don't just look at clicks and opt-ins, look at actual sales from the marketing funnel. It's easy to get loads of new leads appear and get all excited only to find out no-one bought anything, and none of the leads confirm the double opt-in.

Overall I think you've just learned a harsh marketing lesson.

Not too harsh, he's only out $20 thankfully!

I was hoping this wasn't so but lesson learnt. Now the question is: should I report the vendor or keep it quiet? I am not a confrontational person so this is out of character. But I don't want ppl to get sucked in too.

    Any suggestions?

Would you mind sharing? I was about to buy some solo ads in the next week and this has been a concern of mine. I'm trying to weed out the scam ones and stick with reputable ones.

I would go: Reed Floren's Solo Ad Directory
The vendors would not have made it to the list if they were scammy ones. I would usually use the ones there but I was short on cash and decided to try that one. but people have told me to try a small package to test out the list. So that would be my advice to you.

I got the scam solo ad from the WSO section. I would not really recommend this but it's good to see around. But make sure to ask around for the validity of the vendor. Reviews are not as good as gold so be wary.

        Hope that helps.

          Well well well

Here is a quote from that web site:
"P.S. Do you want to be listed here? Send me an email"

I would say sending an email is probably not to good a qualification.

You best bet: Do your own research. Get on the person's list and see how he or she treats you and then judge whether it matches your stile and your offers etc.

Then talk to them on Skype. You will get an idea pretty fast.

          PS:
There are people on that list that are excellent, other are so-so and others are well...

But it really depends on you. Not every person can get along equally well with everybody else. There are probably people that I do not like that much and they are other people's heros or lovers.

Very few who contact me EVER get listed. And everyone that I have listed has been personally tested out with my own money first before I recommend them.

Thanks..I suppose if I'm looking for niches outside of Internet Marketing I would have to ask them what they offer? On the few I checked out they really don't mention what the target audience is.

That's too bad. That's why I make sure I know the reputation of the person or entity from whom I purchase advertisements.

Wow, that is too bad but I can honestly say your $20 loss will be repaid to you in karma for the lesson I learned through this post.

I'm sorry you lost the cash but like you said, a lesson well learned. Thanks for "taking one for the team". As far as reporting, I think it may be a good idea so others don't get scammed but the choice is yours.

    Good luck

Yes, most of these type of deals are complete scams. You have to make sure the website you are placing your ad on is legitimate before you spend any kind of money. It sounds like they used some type of software to get your clicks. In some cases they don't even change the IP at all because most who buy this type of traffic have no idea what an IP even is. Just chalk it up to a lesson well learned.

You have to wonder the legitimacy of most "solo ads"...if you think about it the person selling these solo ads probably already knows the list is no good anymore so they start selling ads to people...in hopes to still make money from their list...you have no idea the history of these lists and many times the subscribers have been sent so many crap offers that they become very unresponsive.

If I had a list that was responsive why would I sell someone an ad for $20? Especially when I could make 5 or 10 times that amount sending my own affiliate ad?

what i do when i use solo ads is not look at anything apart from

my squeeze page opt in conversions
how many sales i made from the campaign

this is all i care about

all of the solo ads that ive bought so far have all been fairly good

but look at your opt in conversion rate and also how many oto`s you make and you will soon know if the traffic is quality or not

also make sure your only offering $5 - $10 products as the one time offer any higher and your conversions are going to be much lower

You can't really. The only reason I got suspicious was that most of my subscribers were from Bangkok Thailand with very western names. Luckily getresponse send me an email with the particulars plus the technical jargon.

there are lots of popular tried and tested solo ads out there and reed already has a good site showing the stats of the ones that he bought

    the average i pay is around $40 for 100 - 135 clicks

$20 for 150 clicks to me does sound a bit cheap but theres only ever one way to find out

buy it and see and you did

theres always new solo ad providers popping up and some are good some are bad you sometimes have t do your own testing and then keep your own list of solo`s that prove to be profitable for YOU

like i said in an earlier post, you can generally tell if the traffic is quality/targeted or not by how many opt ins you get and also how many oto`s you make

I'm surprised no one in here mentioned going to Safe Swaps to make sure you don't get hosed.

They monitor traffic stats and allow buyers of solo ads and swaps to provide feedback on their experience.

    Try that next time.

Whois it and if you find an American address report it to the FTC, they'll be extremely happy to know!

But I would say contact them first and ask about their subscribers and whether they get incentives for their actions, because if so then
    1) stay clear from this kind of lists and if possible get your money back, and
    2) let them know that their subscribers are cheating them, you'd be doing them a favor.

An incentive could be money or points or credits or virtual currency or anything they get in return when they click through to your site.

Hi guys. I'd like to thank all of you for the great advice. I have contacted the vendor and he has agreed on a refund. I have written a review of him in the internet marketing product reviews ratings. This would teach me to research more.

But there is something that confuses me. He uses google to trick his clicks. I use hyper tracker. So why does his tracker reported more clicks than mine since they are not unique clicks?

It's definitely a good idea to research anything you get involved with online, but at least you only lost some time and not even any money, since you got a refund. I've found that often times these mistakes can end up costing way more than the predicted payoff said I would gain.

I did a 500 click/$180 purchase with a recommended fellow, he is not on Reed's list, and when studying my google analytics noticed that most visitors were staying 0 seconds. It was clear - I think - that some of the list was some sort of automated system. I wondered to about saying something publicly. I asked him how this could be and he said he didnt know. If anyone has insight let me know. I wish I had done a smaller deal first.

If you bought this from an ad here on the forum, go post your factual feedback on the thread. Just comment on the service and the results, and don't make any personal references to the seller. And don't toss words like 'scam' around. You might want to wait until you get your refund, though.

Usually the standard price is around $0.30 to $0.40 per click so around 65 to 75 clicks for $20 is realistic. I have has issues with previous purchases like this in the past only to find that most of the clicks are non unique. My best advice is stick with trusted sellers and if the offer sounds too good then most likely something is wrong.
