Which one is better- solo ad or google adsense?

Im trying to decide which one I should delve into. I know solo ads are good. But I have been hearing about adsense. I wonder if it would measure up to solo ads. Or are both worth a shot? Suggestions anybody?

Why not do a mix of ads? Try adsense on one site/blog and other types of ads on another site/blog? And then see which one gives you better earnings.

Grab an adwords voucher and test it out. Adwords is a whole area of expertise unto itself and you have to understand what you're getting into. I recently burned through a $100 voucher in two days, zero sales. If it had been real money, I would have been quite p.o' ed.

As you can tell from the answers, there's a bit of confusion. Are you selling or buying? I'd guess you are trying to buy solo ads or ads on Google search results (adwords). Adsense is the program for selling ads on your site to Google.

I suspect you are buying in order to get traffic to your site. Both methods can work. However, Google AdWords is great at generating targeted traffic exactly right for your site -- but you can drop a pile of money very quickly with nothing to show for it unless you study up first. I recommend getting the book "Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords" by Perry Marshall before you spend a dime with Google.

Solo ads can be very good too -- but you are buying ads on someone else's list. You need to be sure that their list has people on it that will be responsive to what you have to offer them.

So - this is my free advice. Remember, advice is worth what you pay for it. <grin>

You could do well with the Google Content network for adsense. You can get clicks for $.01 per click and if you use the voucher mentioned above, it doesn't cost you anything but time.

I used it a while back and had 10,000 clicks and close to 200 optins so it was effective.

I have also done solos, but you really need to know about the content they are sent. If you use the Directory of Ezines, you should be able to signup for the lists and you can do some spying to see.

I also agree with the try both idea mentioned aerlier. Just try to use tracking links to determine effectiveness.

    My $.02 anyway.

Good advice by everyone. You have to be really careful with Adwords because as everybody has already said it's easy to spend a lot of money and not get any return. I know, it's happened to me. Another avenue you might want to consider is Facebook ads but I understand that they may be getting more tricky. I think on the whole they are cheaper than Adwords, plus you can use Facebook's demographics to really target your ads. Of course the same caution goes for Facebook ads as for Adwords.

There are problems with both. As with all marketing online it requires testing to perfect. Both have costs associated. Adsense can really eat a hole in your pocket very quickly. At least you know what costs your up for with a solo ad. However if your copy is too sales pitchy - that won't work either.
I agree with genei. Facebook is definately the way to go IF you can get your ads approved. This also requires patience and a bit of luck.

I would do a mixture of ads and not just use one or the other. That way if one fails and the other doesn't you are still making money.

solo ads and adwords are completely different in terms of setting things up so i would personally choose one or the other and stick with it until you master that one method

solo ads work great but you need a good sales funnel in place with a good high converting squeeze page too

with adwords your going to have to jump through a kazillion hoops before you get sent any traffic

its all about quality score with adwords plus too many other variables come into play with using google thats why i never bother

i would focus on 1 method at a time and then only move on once you have mastered that one method
