How can I market a Forum (NOT IM)...And what Forum Software do you Recommend

Hey Warriors,

Just got a quick question here for you. I've got quite a suiting domain for a forum in a fairly open niche so I'll likely be looking to have something going shortly.

Now I got 2 questions:
1) What forum software would you recommend. I know PHPbb is free and I've used it before; it seems good but do you have any reasons why it shouldn't be used?

Also I understand vbulliten is also very widely used. Do you know any other good ones? What does warriorforum use? (their system seems very userfriendly)

2) How would you get this forum alive and kicking?
I will be looking into using a lot of SEO as well as hiring some forum posters. Any other ideas?

3) How do you make a tight knit community like we are privileged to have hear. I know a lot of forums that quickly fizzle out. (I am guessing it also has a big deal to do with moderators, this seems to be the common denominator in all the successful forum I am on)

This leads to another question; is it advisable to hire moderators or take community volunteers?

Thanks everyone!

Ps. this forum isn't in the internet marketing niche

Mingle is also okay. The problem is more how to market the forum.

The best forum software out there is vbulletin. It's the same platform this forum uses. As for marketing a forum it depends on your niche. You obviously don't want to start marketing it until there is already some interaction on the forum -- no one wants to be the first poster. I would recommend getting some paid forum posting done just to give your forum that little head start it needs.
