My first thoughts are that it seems like quite a big undertaking to get all the content/reviews you will need therefore it needs to be considered a medium to long term project.

Nothing wrong with that if you are prepared to be patient whilst your site, your list and your income grow.

Using your affiliate links in forums, ezine ads etc is a sound way of generating quick income whilst your main site grows.

By the way I also totally endorse what 'GAVROCHE' says about John Thornhill if you looking for somebody online to learn from. He is a great teacher and someone who genuinely delivers great training

I think your plan is sound. It can work if you put the effort into it. Make sure you build a list though, because backend income from affiliate programs are null unless you're promoting a residual affiliate program like Hostgator's Webhosting affiliate program. So while your backend list may not be there, you will still have your leads as a way to make money from day after day.

But obviously, the best way to have your cake and eat it too... is to create and market your own product.
