Lost my job and want to start right.

As the title says, I have just been made redundant and it has all been quite abrupt!

I have the choice to look for another job that I probably wont enjoy (which I would rather not do), or get started with internet marketing (which I have always had an interest in).

My choice of these 2, is obviously Internet Marketing

I don't need money instantly, I have savings, therefore I can afford to spend some money, but I do need to make sure that whatever I do, I am doing correctly and eventually it will start making me an income.

So .....

Where to start?

I already have some knowledge of IM, but no way near enough.

I feel I need to pick an area to start (amazon, clickbank, adsense, list building, cpa).

And this is where the first problem arises, which area should I go into? I dont want to be chopping and changing every week. I need to be focused in 1 area, therefore I need to get this decision right!

Ideally I would like a mentor or course to follow that is guaranteed and proven to work as long as you put the effort in.

Can anyone recommend a good mentor to get started with as I really want to start ASAP.

Any help at all would be appreciated

Alice

    Hi Alice

You are absolutely right to say that you want to focus on just one thing to start with.

Far too many people come online and jump from one project to another, and wonder why they are getting nowhere.

Personally I don't think anything can beat creating your own products so that is where I'd advise you to start.

As for mentors there are 2 which I have learned a huge amount from and totally endorse 100%.

They are John Thornhill and Liz Tomey. If you want straight talking, No BS advice then seek them out.

Alice, I learned the most from Russell Brunson and his new coaching program for a buck. He gives you a step by step approach that is great for newbies. Two other mentors have influenced me greatly and they are Kelly Felix and Mike Long. Combined, I truly learned everything I needed to be successful online and more.

Find one program and stick to it no matter who you choose to coach you. Do your research on each person mentioned. There is plenty on the internet about the big guys. Almost every one of them will tell you that they made mistakes early on and learned from them, so don't believe every bashing you read either. The journey online is a long one with much to learn.

But those who are successful are

    1. Persistent and don't give up.

    2. They also have a proven PLAN and they
follow that plan without jumping ship to another plan
(that's why people get lost online).

    3. And a great Coach.

    Hope that helps! Kristie

    Hi Alice,

Sorry to hear about your job situation but good to see you looking at it in a positive way

Before jumping into anything take some time out and Brainstorm - what area's are you interested in? What idea's do you have? Is there a Hungry Market for your skills?

Really sit down and Plan - make a Plan of what you'd like to achieve. In this case it may be to make enough money online to give your a full-time income. Then break it down further and analyze what steps are needed to help you achieve you goals...This will save you a lot of frustration later on so please don't neglect the Planning stage...

As for mentors I can only recommend 2 that I have experience with...One being Alex Jeffrey's (who is my mentor and I'm getting great help from him) and the other is John Thornhill (I've followed him for a while and also I know Alex learned a lot from him and come highly recommended)

Whoever you go for just make sure to do you due diligence and check them out properly before parting with any cash. Best of Luck with it - Noel.

Thank you everyone for your feedback so far.

I will make sure I take a look at all the people you have mentioned.

From what I have seeing/reading, building an authority site to then build a list seems like the most profitable in the long term, although it may take slightly longer to get there.

The only thing I would be worried about when creating an authority site is keyword selection. I would be so scared to pick the wrong keyword and therefore be doomed from the start.

Any views on outsourcing your KW research? Is it reliable?
Any services that you have used that you can recommend?

Thanks again ...... back to doing some more reading

I think product creation is the best work you can do now.
Hire a freelancer and you are ready to go!
Launch your product first on wso and then on clickbank.
      You will surely get success.
      Best of luck.

Making money online is a good way to go but the issue is, your present condition warrant quick money.

But you must ask yourself this three questions?

    1. Do you have the knowledge of how to make money online?
    2. Do you have some capital to invest?
    3. Are you willing to put in the desired effort?

If you can answer this sincerely then i believe you are good to go.

Security is what everyone wants, but depending on ones skill/career set and the economy as it is now, I would say nothing is secure. Bad things happen and the foundation that your life and that of your families crumble beneath you.

I found that building multiple streams of income is the best route and that is just a generalization and not limited to IM.

I agree with Chris. Well let me say, Thanks to the Economy, I also lost one of my major jobs 2 days ago, where I was working great for about a year now. Now I've the option to get another job, but I've the same question in my mind, well I will work on a new job for another year or so BUT where am I standing after that? Right in the Middle of NOWHERE. So there has to be a solid plan of making consistent money online & it is always recommended to have a multiple income stream.

Unfortunately regular job gives you no security at all. In fact it makes you much more vulnerable to all that economic factors, human behaviors, etc.

It's just illusion of security and control. And we have seen this not long time ago... 2008?

Regular job gives you regular monthly income... that's all, nothing less and nothing more.

If they decide to get rid of you, they will do, and you can't do anything abut that. No matter who your are and how much your earn, you are only expendable asset.

Only control provides security, and there is no control in regular jobs.

        Hi Alice,

Sorry to hear about your story - an all too common one in the UK at present.

You are right, you need to pick one area, stick with it and take action.

However, it's difficult to advise you without knowing more about you.

What are your short and long term goals, both monetary and none?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
How much time do you have to work daily?
When do you need to start making money?

All these questions would have to be answered before we could give you a plan of action.

For example, if you needed to start making money straight away, you could be advised to write articles - you seem a solid writer. But if your goal is to be in a position where you're not trading your time for money, this would be the complete wrong route to go.

Let us know more and remember that it's good to pick a mentor who knows about the area that you want to go into...

I was in similar situation some time ago, even twice.

When I tried to go full time IM for the first time, about 4 years ago, it was a complete disaster! I made some cash but... also discovered that "Big Red Button" doesn't exist. So after 8 months of struggling I gave up and was back in my regular job... failure.

Second time was even worst! (few months ago) It was quite difficult because I have had no savings at all. So I maxed out my credit cards and took some loans, etc. I knew that my contract is going to end soon so that gave me extra motivation to work harder.

I decided to go IM full time no matter what happens (I made some money online before so wasn't complete newbie but my imagination about IM was still very wrong).

Anyways, there were some really bad times during this transition. At one point I was probably depressed... but there was no choice for me.

Before, for 13 years I worked as a bartender, waiter (sometime cook), restaurant manager, then some time for Compass Group etc. this sort of jobs... I hated every minute of my life.

So I decided I'm not coming back to it.

Thanks to universe, all the gods out there and myself, I'm not coming back there.

I still have to pay my credit cards and stuff but at least I work on my own business (and I do what I like to do). But what's the best about IM is the fact that it's easily scalable, which means sky is the limit.

That's why you are right, focus on one business model only. Get good at doing it and then scale it up.

My choice is info product creation plus a bit of affiliate model.

I think that creating info products gives you much more control over your business and this is very important if you thinking about doing IM your only source of income.

Creating products may take some time (and sometimes not) but that's ok.

Mostly, we are going into IM business because we want to get some freedom and independence. You don't want to work in your business, you want your business work for you.

Create product, get affiliates on board and they will sell it for you. Then move on and create next one, and then one more, and another one...

Of course, don't rely on Affiliates only. Become your own affiliate so you know every detail of your sales funnel and more importantly, you will be self-sufficient.

There is a lot to it but it's not that difficult. Just learn fast and work smart (and stay focus!)

    All the best!

As you mentioned you always enjoyed IM, you should be able to find good opportunities. But one thing I will really advice is - Don't take decision in a hurry. In that way you will never find any permanent solutions.

1.Take some time out and think about your positives and negatives.
    2. After that do some market research (reading forum posts will help)
    3. And then offer services/build products.

Remember by offering services you will be able to make money quite instantly. On the other hand if you choose second option, it will take some time to see real money coming. So patience will be key. And time will surely test you.
    Best luck

One other thing to. Continue to look for a job. Its unlikely that IM success will come over night. Meanwhile no doubt you may have a family or at the very least some bills to pay. Neither will not wait too long. Just keep working at it while keeping things in perspective.

    Wish you the best.

    Hi Alice,

Congratulations on your courage to pursue your dreams of living freely. It is always scary when taking a new path and you are in the right place. The Warrior forum is an excellent place to start.

The fact that you are assessing your position and analyzing the correct path is excellent. I spent about 2 years working in the offline Niche working with big and small businesses. I still work with some core clients that I have had for over 3 years and they pay big money.

I am telling you this because my biggest regret was not building a list earlier. List building is the closest you will get to a safe automated business model that gives you money and freedom.

You have a few core skills to learn here
    1. Basic wordpress - Optimise press and wishlist are all you need
    2. Autoresponders - Aweber or get response or one of the other main autoresponders
    3. Email marketing
    4. Basic Copywritting
    5. List building traffic like traffic exchanges, solo ads etc

This would get you going once you have mastered these areas and have you can be building a real business within the month.

If you have any questions let me know.
    All the best

There is no guarantee that you will succeed with any particular method. That will, of course, depend on you and you only... and you should be the one deciding what type of online business that you'd like to do and then learn everything about that particular business model and get started.

You can burn through that savings in no time buying coaching programs and WSOs with no real clear idea of what you want to do.

Personally, I'd get a job and only quit when I was actually making a full time living from Internet Marketing

I second the motion. The best approach to this is go find a job while doing IM. It takes time to earn in this business but once you are already there there's no stopping you to earn more.

I got this link from one of the threads in this forum, probably you should get a good read of this and see if you still want to pursue IM full-time right now with your situation.

    Hi,

If I were you, I would start with reading all-in-one threads first. There are a lot of gems there. Also read "what you do when you are desperate" thread.

This will give you some basic ideas about what internet marketing is all about.

If you have at least $37, join the war room. You get many WSO's for free. This will give you more actionable ideas.

Whatever you do, start MASTERING ONE aspect of business building first. Could be ONE way of generating free traffic. Could be copywriting. Could be offering a service to other Warriors. Could be product creating. Could be list building. Take one easy model that compels you, try it and see the results till the end.

Whenever you have even a small amount of success, if it is repeatable, systematic, can help a newbie, create a WSO for it. WSO's are great to test internet marketing kind of products. There are 2500-5000 WSO readers to view the forum any given moment. Popular WSO's can generate up to 50,000 reviews and 50,000$+ revenues, and even smaller WSO's tend to make $500-2500 pretty easily.

I can suggest you Russell Brunson as a excellent internet marketing coach. So choose one internet marketing product and spend some time learning. Then make a plan of what you want to promote, create website to build a list of subscribers. You should treat this as any other business!
As you said you have some money to spend so you can consider outsourcing some of your work like web design etc.

    Hi Lissy,
I'm really sorry to hear about your job.
It happened to me a few years ago, and the first 6 months was definitely a struggle.

I now, am over the moon at having resisted going back into corporate world again.

In fact, I wish I would have gone this route 10 years earlier!

I'm very happy I pushed my way through the learning curve, and now have 2 IM businesses ticking away nicely and a third one just starting up.

I agree with some of the earlier posts here.. whatever route you pick... be determined to stick with it.. dont be dabbling at everything.

Also, whereas I wont make a specific training/mentoring recommedation, and you've obviously had a few, get yourself a good course in whatever feel you think you'd enjoy most.. ie: Adsense, Amazon, Offline Services, SEO... whatever.. grab one course and follow it.

And don't get tempted by amazing WSO sales copy each day. We've all gone that route, and in my case, I can honestly say I really started to make progress AFTER I turned OFF my wallet and turned ON my brain.

    Just a few tips.

Feel free to reach out if you ever feel stuck.

    All the best,

    Patrick Batty

My cousin recently went though the same thing. So of course he looks at my lifestyle and asks "How can I make money from home like you"...

First off, there's a lot of moving parts in IM you should understand. And this is where so many people get stuck putting all the pieces together.

When I got started, I decided to specialize in copywriting, because you can get high paying gigs and make a bunch of money.

The drawback is first you gotta learn how to do it and have a knack for it, and quite frankly it's not something most people want to do (One reason why the pay is so high).

So in the case of my cousin who doesn't know jack squat about marketing period, I showed him some basics and got him into offline local marketing.

Basically I created a company to build mobile apps for local businesses. Super easy sell when done right, you get a build fee AND... the best part is you make a monthly hosting and maintenance fee which with enough clients adds up fast.

Sure, he had the benefit of a family connection, so I'm telling you the same thing I tell family. Any questions, pm me.

    Hi Alice,

    Welcome to the IM Arena!

I know it is exciting to enter this new venture. However, let me be honest with you that my first 3 months were tough. It feels like I'm doing really hard work without ever getting paid... LOL

My suggestion to your is to pick one monetization strategy that you feel and resonate with and then stick to it until you make money. No need to jump from one course to another.

If you need recommendation on mentors, feel free to send me PM.

    Good luck!

I believe this is an excellent course if you want to learn more about affiliate marketing and it will also teach you lots of other things you need to know...

Lots of insight, systematic, straight to the point and free for the most part. The course is free but you will need to spend a small amount of money, for hosting, domain, other essential stuff, etc... no more than $150.00 to $200.00 total

Just a few tips, be aware that IM success very really comes quicky. Some people know how to quicky tap into mounting trends and ride the wave pocketing lots of £ but if you want a stable income with websites just bare in mind that it can take a long time to rank for really good converting keywords, especailly since Google is a little unstable after the recent updates. Just thought it important to mention this as you coule be living off savings for a while, and you don't want to take them for granted.

Obviously research is key, spend time picking your niches, products and keywords as you want to maqke sure they are worth your time, investment and of course the wait.

Quality is also key. No doubt you are going to do a great job and put effort into your work, just note that Google usually sniffs out naff sites sooner or later so it's certainly worth to taking pride in your sites.

Unless you want to do all the ranking yourself, then finding a great, trustworthy seo service is a great way to take a load off. If you find the right package (easier said then done though so do your research on them first) then your sites could be making you a steady income within just a few weeks/months.

Before you get swept away, I strongly recommend you read

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ed-hurray.html

    http://www.warriorforum.com/war-room...t-started.html

    and other threads like them.

Many of us have been able to replace our day job in a year, six months, and occasionally less. Those are the exceptions, not the rule. Everyday you'll encounter thread after thread of people struggling to get out of the starting block, and others who have been at it for years with little or no success.

What you probably will not notice are the newbies who come in all fired up to do what it takes (the learning curves and all the work that seems to take forever to pay off), then a few months later completely disappear. I'd like to think they're too busy, but the harsh reality is that most of them have thrown in the towel and abandoned their dream.

    Hi Alice,

I'm sorry to hear about your job. The exact same thing happened to me & I did exactly what you're doing... It's always a good idea to control your own destiny.

I always recommend building a list. It's the best way to build up a long term business. It's almost like having your own money machine!! However I also recommend treating your list right by offering quality content & not spamming them with useless offers!

Good luck - I hope this helps!

    Figure out your costs first.

How long can you live on savings?

How much may your new found venture cost you.

This way you have a stop loss of sorts and know when to enter the job market again in case the earnings don't meet your requirements.

Next you need to figure out what you like and what you are good at.

Is this something you can turn into a business online or will you take a more traditional online business route such as affiliate marketing.

Then you need to start fishing

    Hi alice,
I really understand your situation as I was in the same position few years back.
I what I have done is to research inside myself what I wanted and How I saw my business.
Then after getting the idea and study the market of this type of idea (product or service)to see if this idea will make money. I build up a very good strategy that I follow step by step(I use freemind for that).

    Some advice
Study your prospect, build trust in them and sell them good quality product, so they will comeback for more.

    I hope that help.

    respectfully,

    Domi

I am really sorry to hear that.Losing your job is NEVER a good thing.

But LOOK!See the bright side of the things. You will finally get to practice Internet Marketing since you already know some stuff about its techniques and make some money out of it.

There are literally hundreds of methods you could follow to make some money online.I won't tell you one.The others have already told you a lot to get started.

I will give you a piece of advice though.

    1. Put some goals and get started right away. You have to work tough but in the end it will definitely worth the time spent.

    2. Take some ACTION and commit to your plan, even though you haven't made any money yet.It took me 5 months to make 4$!

    3. Believe in your self.Inner strength can beat every other strength!

Hope these are enough to get you started.Wish you the best of luck and success in your IM endeavors.
