Ok Gang,

Just wondering....doing a bit of research and am curious as to how many people utilize Blogger Blogs....(not word press).

AND For those of you who do...how good are you at them?

IE- Do you know how to download other templates and upload them to blogger?
Do you know how to change the Headers?
Do you know how to insert Opt In Boxes, pictures, change the sidebars etc.

Do you have any issues with them? Something not clicking for you.....
Please give me a quick shout back.

Have a great day!

Sean

I use Blogger blogs for Made For Adsense sites and the occassional affiliate/CPA site. I use the plain jane minima theme and nothing else. I use WP when I want to do much deeper blogs for affiliate stuff and optins. Just better tools to manage it all.

I am curious is blogger as easy to do things with as word press is?
Also if blogger wasn't a Google property and thus the seeming SEO benefits people get, would anyone care as much about the platform?

One of the biggest differences between Blogger and a standard FREE Wp Blog is that you can monetize your sites. Word Press blogs frown on Affiliate links, adsense hosted on their servers. If you run a WP Blog on your server then you are good.

      So...

To answer the question...Blogger is as easy and they are good for more than just SEO...after all SEO really is not any good if you can't monetize the traffic. (not that you could not get creative with a WP Hosted blog).

And for the Newbie who does not know much about tech stuff....FTP, Hosting etc Blogger is a much better platform to get started with.

And for the guys and gals who know what they are doing ...its a quick easy...cheap way to get sites up, run some thesting, create adsense sites etc....without haveing to buy domains etc.

I've used blogger in the past but when I looked at their templating system it only seemed to have one template (no change for different types of pages).

Apart from that I liked its simplicity but was worried that it would be hard to add stuff to it later as it doesn't seem to have the same quantity of plugins as wordpress.

You can actual get different templates for blogger that allow you to add more gandgets as they are called here's an example of a great template that I use that allows for banners and other customizations view this blogger blog as an example:Gadget News 1

As you can see you can have 2 sidebars, banners in the header and you can also add gangets to the footer and above the top post below the header.

While complete customization is hard, there is some degree of customization. I suggest using blogger as a feeder site to build up rankings and traffic to a site on your own host.

I would love help with blogger blogs! I use blogger blogs quite a bit because it is free and using only templates that they have available. Been trying to find other templates to use. Even though it's said that WP is easy, I find WP to be very difficult since I am so non-technical and it would be so awesome to find different templates to use for blogger. Can you please advise?

        Thanks,
        Cindy

I'd rather go with wordpress - more functions, plugins, themes, tweaks and stuff. But blogger is still good.

I have a few blogger blogs but I have to admit that I have not explored the use of other themes - I thought I was stuck with what was there. Where can I find other themes and information on making changes to my blogs - such as how to add categories.

I guess it's obvious - I am not a technical person at all!

I love bogger! I'm on dialup and it's sooo much easier than wordpress.org - haven't tried wordpress.com, both seem confusing.
I easily figured out how to add links, pictures, banners and more. They get some traffic through google pretty fast.
I haven't figured out about opt-ins, feedburner and such.
But, again, blogger is perfect for a dialup neebie!

I've never attempted this, but I'm guessing all you need to do, is click on the Layout tab at the top, then click edit HTML. From there I think you would just delete all the HTML and replace it with the source code of your template. If you do this, preview it, before saving it. That way if it doesn't work, or it's not what you're expecting you can hit the Clear Edits button at the button and no harm will be done.

Do you know how to change the Headers?
Go to your blog's dashboard, click on edit, awindow will popup that will allow you to upload a header from your computer. The size you make your header is dependent upon which template you use.

Do you know how to insert Opt In Boxes, pictures, change the sidebars etc.
Pictures can be uploaded to your posts by going to the posting tab at the top. Right above the post text box, click on the icon 2nd from the right. When you roll over it, it will say ADD IMAGE. You can also add video on the icon next to it.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can change the sidebar other than to add gadgets.

Do you have any issues with them? Something not clicking for you.....
Please give me a quick shout back.

    Have a great day!

      Bruce,
I'd be interested in knowing if there's a limit to how many blogger blogs you can have too. I have about 25 of them I think.

I use blogger blogs all over the place, for link juice to my hosted sites, for testing new niches, for adsense, and CPA.

I LOVE them. I would however, be interested in where to get different templates.

Just the other day I was complaining to a friend that I wish the templates on there had three columns, but they are all two column.

I have some and need help with the headers. I click on edit header to upload a picture, but the title and picture is on the far left side leaving the entire center and right side of the header blank. I don't know how to fix this.

I dearly love Blogger blogs. I have about 15 of them.

Quite frankly, Wordpress hates me. I don't know why, but it does. Maybe because I hate Wordpress.

For me, Blogger is wonderful. I can put a blog up easily and painlessly on Blogger. Layout and everything is easy for me.

I know it is only because I am used to Blogger and not WP, but I really love Blogger.

Did I mention I love Blogger blogs?

Thanks for all of the great responses....

As far as a limit to blogger blogs....I am unaware of any. I personally have 56 of em (although I am not actively using all of them these days).

But...there are tons of themes that you can download for free and use. There are actually a lot of Word Press style themes that have been modified to work with Blogger....and there are lots of things you can do with blogger...templates, customization... SEO Techniques etc.

This definitely helps answer my question!

        Highest Regards,

Great post by Corwinnx, I've found you can get different templates for blogger that let you to add lots and lots of tools and gadgets. A great template to check out which lets me use customizations and templates is at Gadget News 1 With these particular options you can have up to 2 sidebars, add great addtioanl gadgets to the footer and below the header of your blog. You won't be able to "fully" customise it, but it comes pretty close! Hope this helps!

What I have noticed is there are alot of people from forgein countries on there and I still have not found a way to do searches for niche specific bloogs to follow. All I do at present is post some info on there and link back to my domain. Its working but slow.

I started with blogger, and had a few blogs there...but I didn't like their templates, so I switched to wordpress, which allows for customizable css.

I don't blog as much though, I know I should, but man it's a pain...and it seems like they take FOREVER to open, (I have a lot of pics and such on mine) and I'm on a high-speed connection...

Someday I may get technical enough to host a blog on my own site, but I have to admit that I like the instant traffic that the blogger and wordpress sites provide. I still make adwords (adsense?) money off of them and I haven't posted in over a year!

  • I have a few Blogger blogs.

The two things puzzling me at the moment are new templates and embedding Youtube vids (or any other I find) within a thread as opposed to the video bar widget so I can have more editorial control.

The templates thing that is bugging me is I downloaded some templates from other sites and followed the instructions to back up my old template on my hard drive and upload the new one. Trouble being I'm getting all kinds of error messages when I try to use the new one and Blogger won't publish it.

Not being technically minded the templates are xml. Is that different from HTML and do I have to tell blogger it's xml. Or is this just a dumbass question. Sorry
