How Do I Get Video On My Membership Site Without Slow Load Time?

Hey guys, i'm trying to figure out how upload video to my site and get it to play pretty quickly for my visitors. When I tried this on a 100 MB file video it took like 3 minutes to load. Are there services out there that people use that hold their videos?

I don't want to use youtube because the video I'm trying to load is part of a paid product and I don't want everyone to be able to see it.

There really are just two factors, your hosting account and your/their connection speed to the Internet.

    Hey Chris,

You should look into hosting your videos at Amazon S3

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3)

You will also need a 3rd party video player such as Flowplayer:

Flowplayer - Flash Video Player for the Web : Flowplayer

It's also a good idea to optimize your videos with Handbrake:

Even if you use a very fast video host, this will only help to a degree. If the people who are visiting your site have very slow Internet, then even with a fast host they may experience a bit of a wait to be able to see your video. This is just a downfall you have to live with with videos on your site.

I created a camtasia video and its saying the camtasia video is 356 MB...that is enormous. Is there a way to compress the file size?

Even at 18 minutes, I feel like 356MB is HUGE for a Camtasia video.

Do you mean CamStudio? It tends to make pretty large files.

Also, what kind of file is it? If you want to stream it online, .FLV is your best bet, and I think you need a converter to get it to that format.

  • You need to save your file as "WEB-PROJECT" in camtasia after you finished your project. You can also share it directly to youtube with camtasia studio.

Saving in web-format wil produce a folder with a shokwave flashplayer and a mp4 file that you can easily implement on your site.

EDIT: you´ll find that option under produce and share.

I'm not seeing the option where it allows you to save it as a web project. I'm going to file---save as- and i'm looking for web- project but it's not there.

If it is a screen capture you probably want to maintain high resolution so your prospects can see the details. The best compression format is MP4 for high resolution streaming. Amazon server cost pennies. You also can make your youtube video non public and only allow to stream from a particular website.

I use this option when I am recording a video for a client or when working on a project. As a title I enter some gibberish and same for tags. So, it never pops in YouTube search and is relatively private.
Google "free streaming" you should find something that is easy to use and will give you privacy.

    Here are few suggestions:
    1. Use Amazon S3. Host video on their server so your web host won't scream for bandwidth issue.
    2. I also use camtasia. When produce and share, set the format for "Web" so it's compressed and your video size will be minimized. You can also produce and share as custom format but i recommend as mp4 because this format is best for web.
    3. Use cache in your site, if using wordpress use total cache or super cache plugin.
