Google - The Other Side Of The Coin

For those of you wanting to know a little more about Google and are tired of hearing the same old rehashed rants about the company here's some good info.

It's from Reggie Middleton's blog, and if you're paying attention some of this info may actually help you make money.

Lots of charts and insights you won't normally hear from all the noise going around.

Here's a little taste (emphasis mine):

Growth in revenues was driven by an increase in click volumes, especially in the US market. The number of clicks increased by a significant 39% year-on-year and 7% quarter-on-quarter during 1Q highlighting the increasing popularity of the search engine. However, on the flip side, the cost-per-click or the average cost paid by advertisers declined 12% year-on-year during the period - largely due to the growing business in the emerging markets and mobile space, which usually carry lower margins...

Google 1Q 2012 Earnings Update

Enjoy,

I took a look at googles fy 2011 on yahoo finance and was shocked at how little diversity there was in their income stream, as opposed to say microsoft.

I think much of the criticism of google lately is not about their ability to make money it is more about philosophical changes in their algo like negative seo

Negative SEO? Google isn't in the SEO business. They are in the search business.

Their sole goal (other than making money of course) is to provide their users with the absolute best search results possible. In the two years that meant getting rid of a bunch of crap. A bunch of crap.

Also, most of the criticism amongst the general popular with Google has been privacy issues. What exactly are they doing with YOUR information?!

The SEO community, without a doubt, is a very proportional part of that equation.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Dont know how you could interpret my words as saying google was in the seo business, I said ther philosophical decision to allow it to be part of their algorithm was a bad decision, nothing more.

I completely agree about th eprivacy issue buy since I have chosen to do business with google that ship has sailed.

Google is in the advertising business, not SEO or search. All of their products and services, both online and offline, are designed primarily only to promote advertising (including demographic data) within these markets.

I think I like the philosophical changes. And yeah its not very diversified, I'm not sure there is anything wrong with that though. Lots of Google's random services are just designed to bring a greater draw to their main revenue earners.

You've gotta love Google's efforts to take over essentially everything. Not only do they have their own affiliate network and browser but they're planning on launching their own social network.

Well like any warrior would tell you it is best to have a variety of traffic streams and income streams so one thing cannot close your business.

As far as google goes, at some point facebook is going to launch a full-fledged search engine. The facebook search could quite easily revolutionize things as they have a woorld of the one thing google doesnt have - social proof. When you search for "Los Angeles Proctologist" do you want the website that has the most spammy links or the one half a dozen of your facebook friends have said is a quality operation? They launched google+ for a reason.

Also google is facing a war of devices which everyone agrees is the future growth area for engines very soon. If apple wins this war they could severly limit googles ability to harvest thoise searches, do you really think apple is above putting a proprietary search feature on their devices? I dont. Or maybe a "quick search" feature which harvests your search before it even launches the net and then runs it through whereever apple wants to run it.
