Hi all,

I have an Aweber account and I have a question about the names of my subscribers. On my web form I ask for Names and Emails. I recently started getting an Influx of subscribers so, YAY! But some of the subscribers - very few I might add-, are playing funny with the name. I thought about removing the Name field, but I really like the personalizeation I can provide.

My question is this: If someone goes into my list and puts something like asfafsafasfsaf, can I modify that name for that subscriber?

I realize once my list starts getting bigger that it will be nearly impossible to be in there changing it, but I was wondering if this is possible. Do you know if there is a way of changing the name of the subscriber? If there is I was thinking about replacing gibberish with something like Friend or Subscriber...

Thanks for your reply's in advance...

Kindest,

Alex

one way i found out to stop this from happening is put a first and last name field... its less likely, otherwise... nothing you can do.

It also depends on your squeeze page... is it good? It is something THEY want to see? For instance I this page is calling warriors to prepare for war... lol I think they mean it in a literal sense... http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...of-inside.html I would put my real name for something like that... maybe build a killer squeeze page and it will improve it.

But if the squeezy pagey is weezy... then you may get a whole bunch of non-committal peeps.

You will always get someone who puts a stupid name in the optin form.
If they cant give you their real name then they are not serious .
Just unsubscribe them if you want

It is possible for you to go into your autoresponder
account and manually change the ridiculous names
      into something more appropriate.

However, as your list grows at a faster rate, then
this task will become more onerous.

      Here's a suggestion...

Split-test the difference between asking for just
the e-mail address and asking the name and e-mail
      address.

Then you will find out what the most effective
set-up is for you and your list.

I usually see at least a 10% bump in my opt-in
rate by asking for the e-mail only and you'll see
many people just asking for the e-mail now.

Also, once the subscriber turns into a BUYER, I get
      their full name anyway.

A list of BUYERS is much more valuable than a list of
      PROSPECTS.

Thank you for the wonderful suggestion, I think I will split test them. Great Idea. Do you think that with the way marketing is going, we will not need Names anymore? I would really love to know. How do you do it? A mixture of both? Thanks for the great reply. I appreciate it when I get awesome answers.

        Cheers,

People like to hear their own name and I don't think
that will change any time soon.

If they're not entering their real name up front, then
look at improving your sign-up process or waiting
until later before requesting their name details.

I only use people's names judiciously in the rest of my
          sales process.

For example, with my buyer's list, I can auto-insert
their name into the e-mail and even the headline
of the web page I send them to.

Every list is different which is why it's important to
          split-test it for yourself.

Like I said, I tend to ask for e-mail only for prospect
lists and then get the fuller details automatically when
they move onto the buyer list.

          Your mileage may vary.

    Hope that will help.
Thanks DonWarrior, yours was a big help... Now I know exactly how to do it. Would not un-unsubscribing them be against their wishes? That wouldn't go to well would it. I think I will just leave them unsubscribed if they wanted it that way, but thanks, I now know how to do it. Just in case. Thanks for the great reply.

Thanks everyone for the great reply's, I appreciate your answers. I will definitely split test and see which is better. I think that if they do put a strange name they are probably just not serious, but I think I will change the name so when their followup messages go out it does not look that strange.

    Thanks all.

hmmmm I think this can be done but I haven't done it myself.

I do get these type of leads from time to time, but I just wouldn't focus on it much. lol

You can only do so much and I think most of your focus should be used for the people who are serious and put their real name and contact info etc.

    =-)
