Squidoo - Keeping lens featured?

1.) When you publish a lens to Squidoo, how often do you need to update it for the lens to remain featured so it doesn't revert back to WIP (Work in progress)?

It says for the lens to remain featured you should add new content, but it doesn't mention how often to do it.

Does this depend on how many words the lens currently has?

2.) Also, if a lens reverts back to WIP and is no longer featured, does this mean that you lose the backlink if you put a link in the lens?

3.) How many words minimum should a new lens have? I know it should have at least 5 modules with unique content, but how many words?

I read a lens by the Squidoo team which says the first module should contain at least 200 words, but i've seen plenty of lenses which have less than 200 words in the first module.

A lens will never go into WIP if it gets traffic. it's when a lens doesn't get traffic and hasn't been updated in a while - I would say at least 6 months, that it is in danger of dropping into WIP. If this happens, it will no longer be shown to google and the links within it will go nofollow.

I like to put a lot of words in my lenses. ... 300-400 words in the intro module and then at least another 300 in all the modules. Some of my lenses have thousands.

Sure there are lenses that have less than 200 words in the intro module, but that's not very much. I would say that should be a minimum, honestly.

      I agree with lisakleinweber completely.

I've never had a lens revert back to WIP unless I just didn't care about it and didn't do anything with it.

With lenses the more content and words the better, especially if you are optimizing as you go along. But I wouldn't worry about word count. If it's a good lens it will naturally have plenty of information, so worry about that and the rest will follow suit.

The majority of my well ranking lenses don't have a huge amount of words in the intro, but then again some do.

What is important to me is to have lots of modules. I use everything but the kitchen sink...polls, comments, text modules, videos, rss feeds, all sorts of stuff to make it super cool.

SEO plus a super cool lens can be very powerful

I added content to one of my lenses yesterday and then squidoo would not let me republish it.I have no idea why it was good enough to publish when I first created the lens but not good enough to publish after I added more content to it.

    Thanks for the info.

Is there something wrong with Squidoo at the moment? When I signed up they didn't send me an activation email and i've looked in the every folder. I clicked resend email and waited an hour, but it still isn't sent. Ridiculous.
