How can you tell a good Affiliate company from a bad one?

Concerning some of the major AM companies (like Clickbank, etc.) I've heard bad things about some of them (like one in particular (not Clickbank) that doesn't pay out unless you threaten legal action).

I've seen other ones that won't even show you what products you can promote until AFTER you sign up.

Which ones are established and reputable?

I'm a noob trying to find a good one.

If you're looking to promote ebooks or memberships, I wouldn't even bother with any companies that you can't be absolutely sure are both trustworthy and worth your time. Clickbank has more than enough products to promote. I've never used paydotcom, but they're certainly trustworthy (based on the general consensus I've heard from this board), and I would imagine they have a good amount of products to promote as well.

I would suggest just dealing with one or both of them and not going through the hassle of researching another AM company.

If they dont pay you on time as promised means they're bad. so never use them. Stick with Clickbank anyway - you can never go wrong.

Look the ones I have had no trouble dealing with on a global scale include Commission Junction, Commission Monster, DGM Pro, Azoogle, LinkShare, MaxBounty, ClixGalore, ZoomDirect...... and a few others who are one or two products specific.

There may be others who have had different experiences but that is mine.

MaxBounty was the one I'd heard mentioned that people had to threaten with lawsuits in order to get their payouts (after the first few months, I mean).

This is absolutely false. We've been in business for over 5 years and would not be if we were in the habit of regularly ripping off our affiliates.

Realistically, it is absurd to think that a business would throw away a long term business relationship that could be worth thousands of dollars in order to save a hundred or two by not paying honest affiliates.

I'd suggest that you do NOT take my word on this and do some research for yourself. It's really what you should do before you begin any relationship with a network.

        Thank you.

CB is good, but paydotcom is also worth taking a look at. They have lots of recurring commission products to promote as wel.

It's always a good idea to research any company before you begin an affiliate partnership. Google them and include keywords such as "warning", "rip-off", "hoax", etc. You might be surprised what other people have already experienced.

If you're interested in blogging ads type affiliate commissions, you can try reputable places like PepperJam, Chitika and Kontera, too.
