Alexa posted a good repsonse to a similar question recently, and I'll imagine she'll link you up soon in this thread!

I think the domain name sounds fine. But why is the domain name so important? If you're going to be driving traffic to your website by forum posting, PPC, blogging, guest blogging etc, then the domain name is fairly irrelevant. In terms of Google ranking through SEO, I think it's vaguely important.

What I like to do to really maximize my domain names - when I can't get the EMD - is to have them include 2 KWs instead of just 1.
Let's say your site is about "hosting"... you can try something like www.cheaphostingcoupons.com ; that way, you already have an edge to rank for 2 KW:
"cheap hosting" & "hosting coupons"

Now, adding "tips" at the end of your domain name could be good... but only if "yourkeyword tips" is a viable KW. Milk your domain name for all it's worth

The product is the most important part, especially with Amazon, and similarly with Clickbank.

If you asked me I would go for something a little different. For maximum SEO benefits I would get rid of "my" (anything a prefix), and shorten the suffix to 2 characters, like "hq" or anything.

I need to add the prefix "my" because the non prefix ones seem to be taken already. Just so you know my main keyword is composed of 2 words.

  I used to do the whole suffix thing, but found that it worked well about 50% of the time.
  
  The poster who mentioned getting 2 keywords in the domain name by combining a phrase is spot on!
  
  I personally like to brand myself whenever I can AND get the keyword in their. As long as you get the keyword in you are fine, but I think that the 1 letter trick at the end isn't that effective (in my experience) and does not make you stand out..
  
  If mainkeywordtips.com, .net, .org show up in the first 2 pages, just imagine how mundane looking your mainkeywordtipsx.com would look.
  
  Try maybe "cool" mainkeywordtips or "your" mainkeywordtips or "great" mainkeywordtips.
  
  Uniqueness is awesome on every level, so even having a very unique domain name with your keyword in it is good..
  
  I would take this time to brand myself and make Google know your brand, not see that you are just another website chasing a keyword that is gobbled up in domains..
  
  For instance: Tasty Main Keyword Tips "Only the tastiest tips on keywords"...

Honestly, EMD's are a waste of time and a stupid purchase at this point in time. If you're looking to buy a domain for SEO - don't.

Look to buy a memorable domain that people will remember. I have over 100 EMD's and 30 or so non EMD's. During the past year I've experienced all of the panda updates. I've been hugely diverse in my strategy...

I.E. Some of my sites have had white hat SEO, some black hat, some none at all. Some just social signals etc etc.

It seems that ALL of my exact match domains have been more affected by the updates than my others. I also think Google will (if they haven't already) start reviewing exact match domains.

Google knows exact match domains are built to make money PERIOD. "fordkugaforsale.org"... Clearly built to make money. My point is, don't try and buy EMD's full stop. If there's a keyword that gets 2000+ searches a month and someone has the EMD... I would definitely inspect that site...

Buy friendly domains, they don't even have to be keyword rich. It helps with a keyword in the domain, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Pick a .com and something memorable.

I agree. EMD is good if it has big search volume. Otherwise, you can probably score that keyword just the same using regular seo. Get domains for credibility instead.

Hey magiclouie, don't get too caught up in the domain name. Not too long ago in relative history people associated the word Amazon with women warriors or a river in South America. It later began to be associated with books and now its associated with just about any kind of product imaginable. As far as the clickbank product goes it all depends on your strategy. If you're trying to get a domain name of a product so you can optimize that name for keyword rankings and if that product on clickbank has a gravity of 37.43 and 2,900 gmsv then I'd say its a good start but you should also look at the competition. If several high profile websites rank in the top 10 for the same keyword then I'd say don't do it. But like I said, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your domain name and clickbank product selection.

I always used to buy domain names that had keywords in, and it worked well for a while but they soon fell back in Google. I think a unique name is by far the best option - things like eBay, Amazon, Warrior Forum, Facebook (some of the biggest sites on the web) have unique domain names that don't relate directly to the product. If you do want keywords though, try looking at synonyms - for example, bestkeywordadvice.com. Google's quite good with synonym, even things like "best" and "top 10" can be synonymous as far as Google is concerned.

I like the domain name! Have you tried dashes in different places? There are so many ways to to as close as exact as possible! Also a dot com will REALLY help! But i do want to stress that if you have a great product with great on and off page seo and great backlink structure, you can beat any exact domain name with less or poor seo!

A few people have named big brands here and used that as a reason to find a unique name instead of an exact match domain. You have to remember that these big brands have spent a lot of money to get people to remember them. I am not saying that a domain name that is for branding is bad, in fact, it can be good in the long term. But you can find exact match domains that can be branded and that will help with your rankings.

Having an exact match domain will not guarantee you a top spot; you will have to do most of the same work to rank for the terms whether you have the exact match or not, but it can give you a slight edge.

I do like the idea of combining three words that will give you a combination of keywords. This helps you with ranking for long tail searches where the other words in the url are joined with the words in the domain. You can target specific keywords with a the url and also rank for additional phrases that include the domain name.

It's a *decent* domain name if you're trying to go after searches for that phrase. But really, you only need to go after a keyword-rich domain if you're relying heavily on SEO. The bottom line is you'll still have to work hard on getting quality backlinks to your site in order to rank for that particular phrase.
