Which Page Is Best? A Word Of Wisdom!

Hi
I just wanted to share something that may seem obvious but maybe not to some people.

As a vendor/affiliate I'm constantly trying and testing layouts, copy, fonts images etc...to improve sales.

What I think I've underestimated for some time now is that most people DO NOT buy on one visit to a sales page, even if you have a blinding offer that you think is 'BUY NOW' or lose it!

Stats are a good indication of this but I also have practical experience with it I think.

I recently made some big changes to my sales page that were clearly an improvement. I've been making steady daily sales for some time now but as always I want more, so I indentified some areas that I could improve on the sales page mainly by adding some better product images and tweaking headlines.

Guess what...for a week sales completely fell away. I was astonished and horrified because there is no way anyone could convince me that I'd made the sales page worse.

It was tough, but I decided to keep my nerve for another week, not to panic and do something knee jerk like putting the old page back on.

So just as I'm about to revert back to the old page I got an email from someone interested in my product. He said he'd seen the site a week ago and had come back to buy, but wasn't sure if it was the same product on offer. When I assured him it was then he bought straight away and now suddenly bang! 3 sales and counting (hopefully) today. I'm a happy chappy again.

I'm now convinced that I may have lost a few sales last week due to these changes because people may have done the same thing as this guy but not bothered to contact me....and maybe these new sales are just new returning people who are unaware of the old design.

So I suppose my message to both affiliates and vendors is test, test and test...but also give those changes time to register with people. I'd suggest leaving a revamped page at least a week before hitting the panic button!
