Creating an authority website - am I doing the right thing?
I'm trying to create an authority site... a magazine in a broad niche. The main target for now is to gain reputation, and followers - however I am not really sure if I am doing it in a good way, so I am seeking warrior's advice.
I am an expert in my broad niche, so the content is good.
Essentially all I do right now is:
1. Research material for a new article
2. Write the article (no keyword research... just stuff that fits into my niche, and is unique, good content thats not easy to find elsewhere.), 1000+ words
The topics for my articles range from very specific to very broad stuff, thats often asked in forums. This is because the combination of both, as I see it, should make my website gain reputation and at the same time have enough articles for the broad audience.(And I will keep on learning in my niche through the specific stuff)
3. Drop a few comments with my article url on relevant websites
4. Post the url of the article in forums, in threads that are relevant
5. Check if the website is indexed by google/bing, then syndicate the article (send it to ezine, check who's publishing my articles, try to make direct contact to get a list of website owners that want to publish similar content prior to me posting it to ezine)
The articles will be sorted by microniche, but since they mostly overlap, I will have no directories with the name of my microniches in my url, it will all be like domain/articlename. Also, my articles will show up in all categories that are related to it, to give the visitor more content in a specific microniche. I know I have to do something to keep google from seeing duplicate content though. maybe do a nofollow on all categories but one that includes all articles... I don't know yet.
I'll also twitter on my websites twitter account once a new article is out.
Every article of course has social bookmarking options, as well as facebook like / google +...
once I have enough traffic / followers / mailing list opt ins, I would start marketing through my newsletter(s), writing more product reviews, where it makes sense and is of benefit for my readers (no junk). I am also considering writing ebooks to sell.
What do you guys think... will this strategy be successful, or am I wasting my time? any suggestions? I know there is NO SEO involved in this plan, I simply can not stand to try to rank for a certain keyword with all thats involved, meaning building tier 1 blog networks, tier 2 comment spamming / article directory spamming... I may do that later on for keywords that make sense... but if possible I'd like to avoid this stuff as it makes my brain shrink and may not be a long term solution anyways.
So the main source of traffic would most likely be random long tails from google/bing, traffic from links in forums, comments, and syndicated articles.
Still, I am concerned if I will be able to get enough traffic this way to make it worthwhile... so what do you think? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
