I need your opinions on starting a weight loss "affiliate niche" site

Hey everyone , thanks for checking out this thread.. I've been reading the forums everyday for a while now and I'm hoping I can get your opinion on something.

I purchased a domain with weight loss keywords in it with the intention of putting up a blog and hopefully promoting clickbank or weight loss programs through articles, and running adsense for extra income... I'm not greedy or unrealistic in what I'm hoping to get out of this .. It's really going to be my first all out attempt at a "niche affiliate" site.

I guess the things that are making me doubt this is the extrememly high competition in this niche, and my general lack of experience playing with the big boys..

Here's my plan though.

Setup wordpress and install nice looking theme
research long tail keywords to find a sub-niche with acceptable competition
research clickbank for the best selling products of this subniche
research and write articles for the blog, release maybe 1-2 a day.
submit articles to as many sites as possible
use social bookmarking sites such as stumbleupon, reddit, digg, etc

in the near future
sign up with aweber (seems to be the unanimous best choice)
find giveaway to promote for opt-in
look into email marketing strategies and go for it

So this is basically what I've been able to peice together on how to do it ... I guess I'm just asking for feedback or suggestions from past mistakes you guys might have made. If I can get one sale I'll be over the moon with this one ..

Thanks,
Daniel

    That's a start,

But you may want to do a lot more work especially how it is a very competitive market. You may consider some of the following:

Setting up at least 3 squidoo lenses and link them back to your main blog. (Update each lens at least once per week)

Creating A minimum of 5 hubpages and link them back to your main blog.

Create 5 blogger blogs and link them back to your main blog

Submit your main blog, blogger bogs and squidoo pages to website directories.

Bookmark all your pages using digg and other popular sites.

Ping your blogs and rss feed everytime you make a post.

Submitt your rss feed to rss directories.

Instead of writing 1 -2 articles per day write 3-5

These just came off the top of my head hope they help.

    Good luck

Excellent, thanks for that! Exactly the good information I was hoping for.

That's a few layers more than I thought to go, but it makes sense to establish back links and really make a "presence" within a crowded niche

To my knowledge they're information portals that you can create a "squidoo lens", or a "hub" on. They are essentially a collection of information on a particular subject. So in my case I'll be making several pages on these sites under whatever sub niche I decide, for example green tea weight loss .. and I'll provide good information and links back to my blog on them.

Threads asking how to do Article Marketing come up quite often here - so I have a standard reply - I hope this helps:

Two brilliant threads to read about article marketing are these:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...marketing.html

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html

Read them both - all the way through - and take notes.

For further information I recommend the following directory - It is education in article marketing - a guide book and monthly newsletters - with a directory thrown in! You can read what Warriors think about it here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...alks-walk.html

Article Directory - Article Marketing Community

I can also recommend the WSO's from this guy:

This guy also has some good stuff - some article marketing some on other things

    View Profile: Steven Wagenheim

    Hope this helps.

Sounds like the basis of a good plan. What I would say is as early as you can, get into Aweber.

Find or write something of value to give away to anyone that opts in.

Everytime you gain a visitor without giving them a chance to give you their email you only give yourself one chance of a sale.

Give them value, get the email, and you have many future chances to offer a product or service that will make you some money whist helping them. I know some people suggest getting into list building once you have experience but I would say do it as early as possible!

    Hi Monopuff;

I think its worthwhile pointing out that it is the weight loss INDUSTRY, not niche, but you can certainly carve out your own little spot on the web. You may also want to answer some question in the Health (Diet and Fitness) Category at Yahoo Answers where you are able to include your URL as a source.

Once you have alot of content, you can get specific with the actual pages (like the green tea for weight loss) and not just your homepage.

You can "crush it" with the right attitude - and that you've got.

    Cheers!
    Terri
