How to make your biggest competitor build your business

I wanted to share a technique that is:

Legal (checked it all out the expensive way through lawyer)
Works Amazingly well
Is Easy to Setup for small online businesses
Leverages your biggest competitions brand

I have been a lurker on warrior forum for 10 years or so, and have gained lots of value from reading posts, I felt it was time to give something back which works great for my business! You can setup what I explain below in 48 hours and start gaining more sales.

Have you ever noticed the big supermarkets advertising on TV? They compare there prices and value against other supermarket brands in there own adverts. They even say the names of the competing supermarkets in the adverts. This is comparison advertising and its totally legal to mention your competition in your advertising.

This technique works best if you have a very strong competitor who has a great brand and you are no.2 to him/her. It goes without saying that you need to have a product as good if not much better than your competitor.

Simply setup a page on your website that is in this format:

Headline: Competitor Product Name Vs Your Product Name Review

Body: Should include a fair review pointing out the positives of each product and pointing out the added benefits of owning your product! Stay away from negative comments about your competition. Just highlight the positives of your own offering here. I usually have a comparison table on the page... comparing benefits. Then a simple link at the bottom for more info on each product. I link to my sales page here.

Then setup an advert on google under your main competitions product name (keyword) and drive traffic to your new comparison / review page.

This method has worked fantastic for me on a couple of projects I have done and if you do the same I am sure you will be pleased with the results!

Disclaimer: Your competition may object to this (like mine) via legal threats. This works great and will effect there sales and yours too. But the law is on your side, you are doing nothing wrong ... comparison advertising is 100% legal.

I hope some of you make use of this technique and gain value from my share!!!

M

Its may be legal, but if you are promoting the product of the competitor they may have some say and may win out in the long run.

This seems like some type of short cut and they never last.

Actually, if the OP is talking about using Adwords, it's a variant of an accepted technique called 'turning the corner'.

As he mentioned, it helps if you are already a know presence in your marketplace.

Picture SmallTown, USA. You're the local Chevy dealer, and there's a strong Ford dealer up the road, next town over.

You want to sell Silverado pickup trucks, and you're aiming at Ford shoppers who may be willing to switch brands.

You set up your comparison page, showing an accurate, but favorable to you, comparison between the Silverado and the F-150.

You start an Adwords campaign with ads like:

      Thinking of Buying a F-150?
      Before you write that check
      Get all the facts.

As long as you tell the truth, you are in good shape. You are not promoting the competitor, just using them as a basis for judging your own product. No shortcut involved, and it's worked for as long as Adwords has been around...

Seems good to me, would suck to be the competition though! The only problem is campaigns like this eventually lead to less profit as competitors continually work to outprice each other.

Only if price is the only thing either could bring to the table.
