Don't rely on Google traffic?

So I've seen quite a few threads/comments/suggestions here in WF not to rely solely on Google/search engines for traffic.

Some warriors even said they've given up on Google altogether.

I most definitely understand the concept of not putting all your eggs in one basket. So my question is, if not Google traffic, then what?

I understand there's video marketing (putting up videos, rank well in the video sites, get traffic from there).

I'm curious to know what other traffic sources people can rely on and what has worked for you extremely well so far that you wouldn't care less if Google died tomorrow.

I've love to hear your views.

Biggest other option is referral traffic (from referring sites, forums, blogs, syndicated articles, and guest posts).

Exactly When you write great content, it will get spread across the world-wide web via article syndication, blogs, social media, forums, and many other platforms. Google is NOT the be-all, end-all solution to online success! Create a solid business foundation, focus on content marketing and really servicing your target audience (rather than focusing on how much money you can make), and you'll see that even without Google's blessings in terms of high rankings, you can reach great success!

I think those that are saying don't rely on Google are those that are abusing Googles ranking algorithm to rank their sites on the first page of google quickly. Things like 1000's of spam links, 1000's of blog comment spam, 1000's of social bookmarking links...etc.

If you build out a good site with good content and don't use and of these spammy link building techniques then I think you should be just fine. But this has to be a long term project as it takes awhile before you start getting any sort of results.

You ever get tired of saying that? It's almost like google has mastered the art of brainwashing, they have you and many many other marketers repeating that gibberish over and over and over and over and over. Mean while sites that been around for years, have plenty of what most people deem to be "quality" getting deindexed left and right. And here you are, as expected repeating the same "quality quality quality" thing in response. I've never seen anything like it before.

Or they are just the ones that have been doing it a different way all along. Personally, I don't rely on google for traffic, but that doesn't mean I don't rank well and get google traffic. It is just not my main source or the traffic I chase.

I build my websites/blogs with the visitors in mind and worry about what they want. Then, I use marketing methods that help me reach my target market. It has nothing to do with being deindexed because I tried to cheat the search engines.

To me, if all you do is go after Google traffic it is like opening a business and relying on one other business to refer you all your customers. No smart business person would ever do this and all businesses diversify their marketing to reach their audience.

Yep, google has gone crazy and many spammy low quality sites have seen huge bumps in the rankings. Another reason to not center your marketing around search engine traffic.

If you're dealing with SEO, then your traffic is NOT in your control. Google decides what they want to do, and they can decide to take your livelihood if they wanted to.

If you're here on an internet marketing forum - then your website probably isn't an organic website that ranked #1 on google without intent.

google will still have to display a top 10 site for the keyword after dropping some previous top 10 sites, so the only way is to make sure you understand google correctly.

what would you do if you own google? do you want to show your customer some junk info on top 10? will you drop a site ranking if you found the site blasting backlinks everyday to secure the position? do you want your adsense ad display on an autoblog with non related ad?

    problem solved
