Do you ever get information overload?

In 2002 I decided that I wanted to sell an ebook...so I had to figure out how to make them and began immersing myself in all things web. I learned a little about internet marketing, a little about web design, a little about how to make ebooks...clickbank was around then, so was Corey, and I just learned and learned.

Not a lot of action was taken, though. It just seemed like I was always one step behind...

I know it's a fine balance, but it just seems like there's so much to absorb, there's always the latest and greatest thing/application/program/guru, and now, what is like my umteenth million time getting started, find myself just blown away.

I have a product that I want to launch in a few weeks, and frankly, all I want to do is sell my product and support my customers...but I'm finding that I have to re-learn what is no longer valid, and learn all of this new stuff.

And, I'm just curious...how you do filter? How you do decide which path to take where there's so many?

Hansel and Gretel don't stand a chance in the forest of adsense-blogging-twittering-facebook-ebook-webconferencing-video-software-freeware-myspace-youtube-podcasts-squidoo-clickbank-cj-hubpages-"I-make-$1000-a-day-and-so-can-you-if-you-just-follow-my-simple-steps..."

Talk about "bright-shiny-object" syndrome...My eyes are all a-glaze!

Haha you are right there is a lot of info and it is constantly changing and easy to get overloaded with all the new tools....you know what keep it simple...start a blog around the topic of your new product and just post new bits of interesting information about your topic each and every day and hopefully generate some traffic and some buzz.

Then like you stated that your product will be introduced in a few weeks, and start promoting that. There is nothing really complicated about this but it will in itself hopfeully both generate some sales and teach you a lot.

    Good luck!!

There is nothing to relearn. You seem to have a lot of knowledge, what you need to do is find something that works and then do just that. You only need two things to make money when it comes to selling an ebook:

    1. Your product and its sales letter website
    2. Traffic to said website

Don't over complicate things. Evaluate new products on the basis of the first two core things that you must have. Is the new information going to show you how to get more traffic or is it going to show you how to improve your product and/or its sales letter website.

Don't buy products that have nothing to do with your ebook business model. These are things like Adsense, affiliate marketing, CPA offers, blogging, etc..

If you want to sell ebooks and make money online here is the LAST step by step system you will ever need!!

    Step 1)Get your ebook finished
Step 2)Get your sales letter website up
Step 3)Get traffic to that website

Its that simple. There are a ton of ways to get traffic and that is what you should focus on. Only after you have a healthy stream of visitors to your site do you want to start tweaking things on the website itself. So many marketers put the horse before the cart.

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND TAKE ACTION!!

      Thanks! It's just so much...

I'm tired of seeing those long one-page sales sites, (even though people say they work they annoy the heck out of me) so I made a webfomerical...which is great, but then I had to learn how to do it.

And traffic is awesome, but again, so many different people are saying that twitter is the way, no facebook is, no PPC, no articles...you need to have content...blah blah blah.

Even the ebook itself is no longer in existence...my particular niche became flooded with them, so I created a 2-hour training video, (complete with interactive quizzes!) just because I wanted to do something different.

But yes, the sales site is up, the webfomerical is nearly done, the main site is up, I'm just now waiting for the affiliate program and shopping cart to be installed.

Thanks for reminding me to keep it simple...I know I can always add twittering etc later, I just am having problems choosing what comes first!

Pick one and stick with it. You have to remember that the people telling you that twitter is the way want you to buy their twitter product. The people telling you that facebook is the new hope want you to buy their facebook product. Traffic is traffic, the thing is, you must have it in order to succeed.

So if you do want to get your traffic from twitter, I want you to have the biggest twitter following anyone has ever seen.

If you want to use hubpages, I want you to have 400 hubs up and driving visitors to your sales page.

You get what I'm saying. You do not want to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Get your sales page totally complete with affiliate program and software then start driving traffic! Once you make that first sale you'll know that you CAN make money online. The key here is not to try to find some other new and exciting way to make even more money.

The key is just to take what worked in the past and ramp it up and do it more!

    To Your Success in 2009,

    -TG Claude

You have to have a plan of attack. If you have a plan, then you can follow it. Stick to it. Get your book finished, and do not make major changes in order to release it. You can always save them for future release or updated versions.

Info overload can happen to all of us. The trick to it is sticking to your plan. Like a travel plane, you have to get from point a to point z. Take it one step at a time and move in your chosen direction.

Focus is key to what you want to accomplish. You can always test and tweak the details later on down the line. Which you will and should do anyways.

If you get too caught up in the details you will be in the "IM Quicksand" and risk never moving forward.

Don't worry, you are not unique in that respect. Everyone suffers from information overload, even more experienced marketers as there is always something new to learn.

Use the old 'How do you eat an elephant?' concept. i.e. One bite at a time.

Focus always on 'what needs doing next' and don't stop untill that step is done, then do that again and again until your product is out there and selling.

You're right, there is a lot of information out there that's constantly changing and its easy to get overwhelmed with all the new and improved tools. I think the secret is to just keep it simple! Start up with a blog around the topic of your new product or niche and generate some interest and traffic, coming accross as an expert in your field.

Then you could slowly introduce your product in a few weeks, and start promoting it through your blog. Self promotion via a blog is the way to go!

    Good luck!!

Information overload is a big killer and can be so for even experienced marketers! I definitely fall prey to this sometimes. A case in point, I have bought tons of reports and haven't even got time to catch up with reading them and I am buying new ones already. LOL! It is important to stay focused on something. For example, if I want to master the skill of making money using Twitter, I will then read only relevant books on the topic. And of course that is after I get on with my internet marketing stuff.

the best thlng to do is get a plan and stick with it. We all go down the track of "the next big thing". And while things do change, there seems to be a few basics that all the new material has in common. Ebook wise its about finishing the book, building relationships, having a good sales page and getting traffic that converts. Thats it in a nutshell. Sure there are nuances and tactics involved, but that is the basics.

Take advice from General Norman Swartzkopf..

"it is better for a good plan to be executed now than for a perfect plan to be executed later"

In other words just do it, test and refine, as even if you had the most up to date relevant info to launch as of todays date it will no doubt evolve as you understand your customers and market in more detail.
