UK affiliates of Amazon.com - how do you receive payment?

Hi all,

If you're a UK affiliate of Amazon.com, you need a US bank account to receive deposits, but they allow checks/cheques to be sent overseas.

UK affiliates, do you receive cheques?

Thanks,

Jodie

I receive my Amazon payments by cheque and my bank takes about 10 days to cash them, applying an £8 fee.

    Hope that helps

You can read the payment details over Amazon. They are vast payments methods but usually send checks to overseas affiliates.

All UK banks charge for cashing a US dollar cheque - it depends on the bank as to how much. Lloyds TSB charge around £7 or £8 to cash the cheque. However, the money is available in my account within 1 or 2 working days of me paying in the cheque which is nice.

I think outside of the USA you can only either get paid in gift certificates of by cheque. They don't offer direct deposit for non US residents.

Not quite right Jason I get all my Amazon payments paid directly into a US Bank 3 days after Amazon payout, previously I could only accept a check (6weeks wait time) or a gift certificate as mentioned above but that was until I found Payoneer who set me up to receive direct deposits into a restricted personal US bank account in my name. Each month Amazon pays me and I can withraw it on my Payoneer Card, at any ATM, I can also transfer money from paypal onto the card also, and also have my Commission Junction payments as well as a whole other list of companies.

It works great my only problem is when you hit $12.5K deposits you have to start spending or withdraw as that is the deposit limit for the card so that dont take long and I have to have piles of thai baht again

Its a great solution and they are pretty easy to deal with

Gaz thanks for the great feedback.

Please note, that limit is only for the card and not your account; ihe account does not have a limit. When your card goes under the limit, money from your account is automatically loaded onto the card.

Do you guys (UK affiliates) use either Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk for each site? Or do you include both and somehow display the correct .com or .co.uk for the location of the visitor?

Jodie: my site detects country by IP address (not foolproof but good enough) and changes links to uk or .com accordingly. There's another thread in this forum about where to cash cheques. Santander charge £10 which was one of the cheaper ones - but they're rather unreliable (lost cheques etc).

For the US Payment Service only, the cost is $20/year and 1% of payments received. If you already have a Payoneer account and would like to PM me, I'd be happy to provide further details.

Update: We no longer charge an annual fee for the US Payment Service, so the cost is only 1% of the payment amount.

Amazon uk pay me direct into my bank account and i am in spain, amazon.com will only pay by check if out side the USA

    From AmazonUK
    Banking Information

Locating Your Bank Sort Code and Account Number You can find your Bank Account Number and 6-digit Sort Code within the string of numbers located at the bottom of one of your checks.
    Direct Deposit
Why should I choose Direct Deposit instead of cheque for my payment method?
    1. Bank transfers are a quick and secure way of transferring money.
    2. The minimum payment threshold is GBP10 for bank transfers and payments by gift certificate or GBP 50 for payments by cheque (non-UK residents only).
    3. There are no fees.
    What is Direct Deposit?
Direct Deposit is a method used to transfer funds from one bank account to another bank account, eliminating the use of paper checks. It is widely used by all the largest banks and corporations because it is more efficient and secure than payment by paper checks. However, you can choose to receive payments in the form of gift certificates if you prefer. Payments by cheque can only be made to Associates who are not resident in the UK.
    Are there any restrictions?
If you do not have a bank account with a bank in the UK, you will need to supply the following information for your bank account: IBAN (International Bank Account Number): The IBAN is an international number for your account which facilitates processing for cross-border transactions. BIC (Bank Identifier Code): The BIC is a unique global code for a credit institution. By using this information we can carry out cross-border transfers. Please note: Only the following countries currently support IBAN + BIC: EU countries + Switzerland
In which currency are payments made?
Amazon.co.uk can only disburse payments using Pounds sterling.
Where can I find my Account Number and Sort Code or IBAN and BIC?
Your account number and sort code will be printed at the bottom of the cheques for your bank account. You can also contact your bank directly.
Your bank will also be able to inform you of your IBAN and BIC on request.
Do I need to notify my financial institution to arrange for Direct Deposit?
No, just arrange it with us and we'll transfer the funds.
    What information is required?
Our online application requires these pieces of information:
    1. Bank Name
    2. Bank Account Type
    3. Bank Account Number
    4. 6-digit Sort Code
    5. IBAN (non-UK residents only)
    6. BIC (non-UK residents only)
    7. Primary Account Holder Name
    8. Country of Bank
How will I know that I've been paid?
You can always see what Amazon.co.uk will pay you for the most recent complete month of sales by checking your Earnings Reports under View Reports. You will receive an e-mail message from Amazon.co.uk for each payment period stating exactly what you are getting paid. You can also view Payment History under Your Account for details on your monthly earnings and the date your payments were disbursed.
Will my financial institution charge me for Direct Deposits?
Most banks do not charge for Direct Deposits, but you may want to contact your bank to make sure. Amazon.co.uk and its bank will not impose any fees for Direct Deposit.
What do I need to do if my bank account information changes?
It is critical that you maintain current and accurate information on your Amazon.co.uk Associates account. To change your bank information, log into your Amazon.co.uk Associates account and go to "Your Account." From there you'll be able to enter new bank information.
What if there's a problem making a payment using Direct Deposit?
Most problems will be handled directly between Amazon.co.uk and your bank. However, if you notice a problem, please write to associates@amazon.co.uk and clearly label the problem as a Direct Deposit issue. In your e-mail you should include the nature of the problem, but do not include confidential information such as your bank account number, sort code or your taxpayer ID. Don't forget, you must write to us from the e-mail address associated with your Associates account. Please also let us know your Associates ID.
If I sign up for Direct Deposit, can I change back to paper check at a later date?
Yes, log into your Amazon.co.uk Associates account and go to "Change your payment method" under "Your Account." From there you'll be able to request to be paid via paper checks at any time.

    From Amazon.com
    Are there any restrictions?
If your bank or financial institution is not located within the United States, you are not eligible for Direct Deposit of your payments to your account. In addition, your bank must have a routing number.

I have a HSBC business account which charges £12 per USD cheque. Your cheque may go to collection route (charge £25 and wait 3~4 week to clear) if the cheque value hit more than $2000.

I switched to Sandander latter on which charges £10 flat rate for both negotiation and collection. Sometimes I got negotiation (cleared in one week) for cheque value of around $3500. Which is nice.

      1-2 working days??! seriously?

I just walked into Lloyds earlier and tried to deposit the cheque into my bank account BUT they said I have to wait for 6 weeks to clear (have a LOT of papers to sign as well)

I didn't go through with it, yet. I thought I'd research more about it.

I actually got my first Amazon.com cheque (from May earnings) and I shudder at the thought of having to wait 6 weeks to receive a $140 cheque (which is about 90 sterling pounds)!

That seems odd with Amazon.com. As far as I know, they will only do direct deposit if you've got a US bank account.

Do you have to wait a 6-week clearing period everytime??

I have both Lloyds TSB and HSBC accounts, and I'm still researching the best and fastest (not to mention, cheapest) way to convert this cheque into real money. I have more cheques coming soon from Amazon.com.

Guess I'll have to consider the Payoneer account.

I don't check the clearing period. I don't think it took 6 weeks to clear though, probably about 2 weeks because I've gone to the cash point a couple of weeks after.

How many papers did Lloyds TSB say you had to sign? I only had to sign one paper apart from the signature on the check also.

I don't think Payoneer sounds a good option unless you really want/need to recieve payment every month. If it's 1% per transaction, that means if you earn 10k a year then you have to pay Payoneer $100 plus the $20 yearly fee. Also, they charge a fee to withdraw money from an ATM machine which isn't good.

Thank goodness I have HSBC - I just went it to the teller and she had me fill up a paying-in slip and sign the cheque, and that's it. I received the money in my HSBC account in less than a week - costs me GBP 6 in fees though! (but much better than Lloyds)

With Lloyds, there's 1 full page you have to sign with carbon paper to copy it about 5 pages deep (i think)... there were a lot of blanks which I don't know how to fill  got me really confused! lol

With regards to Payoneer, I'm not sure about the 1% transaction.

For me the Payoneer option is well worth the fees (which are very acceptable) to be able to gain access to Affiliate payments in a quick and efficient manner without having to wait for checks and then waiting again for them to clear.

Of course this is only beneficial for Non US and Non UK affiliates like myself living overseas that have no other option than to receive checks.

      Gaz,

Can you receive payments over $10,000 into your Payoneer card?
(I am already envisioning a $20,000 payout from Amazon

How do you withdraw such huge amounts? There is a daily transaction limit of $5000 per business day.. Is there an option to do direct bank tranfer once it's in the Payoneer card?

I guess I'm used to the Faster Payment System here in UK where you can send money online to other banks/accounts in mere minutes

@gie grace: There is no limit to the amount that you can receive with the US Payment Service. You will be able to receive payments of $20k or more.

The daily usage limit for the card is $2,500 in cash withdrawals and $2,500 in purchases ($5k total). We are planning to add a card to bank transfer option in the future, however it is not yet available.

If you already have the US Payment Service active (and know your US account/routing number) you can proceed in entering those details to the direct deposit form on your Amazon account. The notice generally refers to the fact that you can't get paid to a Chinese bank account.

You should be able to enter and save your US account details, and begin receiving payments via US direct deposit.

Amazon it not an official partner of Payoneer, you cannot go to their site and choose Payoneer as a payment method.

However, you can still receive your Amazon payments to your Payoneer card via our US Payment Service. This service provides you with US bank routing details which sends the payments to your card via ACH transfers.

When you are in Amazon, you would choose their direct deposit option as a payment method.

For more details please feel free to PM me.

It seems that Amazon has updated their policy, and no longer allows you to receive your payments via US Direct Deposit. Unfortunately, Payoneer has no control over Amazon's regulations; in order to receive a payment from Amazon you need to have a valid account with the option to get paid via US Direct Deposit.

We strongly suggest contacting Amazon, or posting on their official forum, and asking for further information on this change. Letting them know that you would like to receive your payments via US Direct Deposit, or via Payoneer, may go a long way towards resolving this issue. We have found in previous scenarios that user feedback goes a long way.

Also note that this change seems to only have affected Amazon Associates; Services such as Amazon Sellers, KDP and CreateSpace still offer payments via US Direct Deposit for international members.

Looks like it's back to getting cheques then.

Can't choose direct deposit. I'm from the UK. It only allows gift card and cheques.

In terms of Amazon (and some other US affiliate programs), we get $ cheques

We have a $ account with the bank.

I believe the charge was $12 for each bunch of cheques we paid in, but could be wrong. It paid to pay in several at once.

Several years ago, we had to sign a document agreeing that even after funds appeared in our account, the bank could reverse for up to 90 (?) days after and we would have to pay back the money in that case.

System works pretty good, except when you get a check draw on a Canadian bank, which is what one other affiliate program tends to send us,

The UK Amazon affiliate commission payouts are often made in checks. Not sure though about the rates of deposit to bank accounts though.

Update: The issue seems to have been resolved, and you should once again see US Direct Deposit as a payout method.
