I'm starting to get into list building and I was thinking about buying my first solo ad. Is there a good website to find people who are selling these types of ads? Or do I have to find the people myself and negotiate the deal?

There's a lot of them here in the Warriors for Hire/Join Ventures forums. I've been using quite a few with good results.

Make sure you look at their feedback first.

It was my first WSO so I thought this time I'd give it as a freebie so people could get a feel for what they'll get from me.

I have a lot of other upcoming tips coming via email and a much more extensive list building WSO in the works. My subscribers will get early access to it.

solo ads are great to use so its a wise move but make sure the solo ads you use you ONLY use the ones which guarantee you a certain number of clicks say 125 unique clicks for say $40

ive been using solo ads for months and my list is growing super fast

just make sure you have a good sales funnel in place and a good free offer to give away. the oto is optional but it will def increase your profits when using solo ads and also adding an upsell too will increase them even more

These can be found in the JV room of this forum, reed floren's soloaddirectory or safe-swaps. These though are basically for the IM niche. If you're in a non-IM niche, your best shot would be to contact ezine owners in these niches, probably best found in the directoryofezines.com

If you wish to find a solo ads, it would be best that you buy yourself.
It may take time but atleast you do know which ads you should buy after evaluate the site traffic.
Make sure the site traffic is your target market and do have high traffic on it.

  $1 per subscriber is reasonable. This is way cheaper than other forms of advertising. Period!
  
  You have to spend money to make money. This is a long term investment.
  
  Spend about 30-50 cents per click. So for 125 clicks at $45, you can expect around 45 opt-ins.
  
  Most importantly, you have to test, test and test you squeeze page to make sure that it is high converting. Otherwise you are going to waste a lot of money.

There are several places to purchase solo ads. One great place is safe-swapes. They give a list of people whom are selling solos. Also, many IM Rooms in Skype, sell solo ads. Just pm me if you are intersted in joining a few rooms for FREE. All you need to do in the rooms is ask for a swap or need a solo and many people will respond. Depending on the experience and list size and quality, depends on the monetary value of each solo. If interested i can give you a few people i used to purchase solos from that are quality solos.
