Freelance Proofreading Question

This is a question about freelancing, so please move this thread if it's in the wrong section.

I've seen proofreading jobs posted on freelancing sites, and I'm wondering whether or not it's typically expected for proofreaders to return a .doc file including standard proofreader marks, or if it's generally acceptable for the document to simply display the changes which were made.

I'm also not sure whether or not there's even a way to incorporate standard proofreader marks within a .doc file, at least when it comes to Open Office. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks.

    My clients asked me to use the "track changes" function (this was in Word, but I assume there's something like it in Open Office). That way they can see both the changes that were made and the final "clean" version.

      Yup.

      If you use MS Word, its 'track change' feature solves your problem.
