Any tips on marketing my kids app?

Hey everyone! I'm Pete. New here thanks for having me!

I hear this is a place where the geniuses live, and I am looking for genius.

I just came out with my first app. It's a kids' book called "Pete's Robot". It has been out for a month and I am looking for wisdom as to how to get it out there.

So far my strategy consists of:

-getting as many blog reviews as possible

-creating more apps

-not focusing on ads (as I hear that ads don't work to well)

-working on a video to promo it

That's pretty much all I have right now. So the question is, how do I take my company to the next level and really turn this into a full time gig?

"Ads do not work well" is untrue - Why don't give you give it shot with a very low capital campaign with say, umm, FB Ads?

Trust me - I had precisely the same perception about Ads but the game is truly dynamic when it comes to Ads. If your App is promising, you can very well have Ads driving traffic. Moreover, atleast test it initially for the sake of split-testing if not anything else.

The other aspects of your strategy are pretty good in my opinion. At this stage however, do not say no to anything. Apps have the ability to go viral eventually - so the initial investment you will make should not matter if you have a promising App.

You're right. FB ads are really cheap and a really good testing ground. If its not being seen, its not being bought. I will give it a go! Pete's Robot really is a high quality app that totally stands on its own, so what's the formula to go viral? hahajk

    Kickstarter

If you do it right, you can make a lot of money as well as publicity.
Apps can easily get lost in the sea of other apps. Marketing is vital. Have you done press releases? Uploaded to the app store? Facebook Fanpage? You can run a contest to build publicity. Etc.

I would love to do a kickstarter! It would take a lot of time, but you're right, it hits on a lot of the aspects that are needed to get a app going.

I haven't done a real press release. How does one go about that?

It is in the app store. For about a month. And we have a FB page and twitter.

      I love the contest idea!

I would suggest targeting online parents forums and groups. Somewhere like mumsnet has massive traffic, and if you could offer a discount for parents who like or share your Page you could see it spread quite quickly.

On a side note, the app looks great! Good job, I could see this being a big success.

I'd say FB ads as well. You can get a coupon to start off if you want to test the waters!

Press releases are really easy but you do need good copywriting. It can be as simple as Googling 'free press release sites' and using those results.

Contests - when done right - can be big.

Give away the initial few pages of the book for free, and when they reach the end of it, put a link over there saying "Buy It Now to know what happens to Pete's Robot next."

It always works. If you already have your readers intrigued, and if they they have a credit card, they definitely buy it. Take advantage of the curiosity element.
