I would always recommend my clients to start out with affiliate marketing so that you get a sense for what your market will buy which can then lead you into more profitable products and services (your own or other high-end affiliate products).

Here's a simple example of how the math would work out...

Let's say you get 100 visitors... and we'll assume a consistent 2% conversion (2% of visitors buy affiliate product and perhaps double that click your Adsense ads - say 4%)

Let's say the product you are selling has a commission of $20 - for every 100 visitors you have...

    1. 2 affiliate sales X $20 = $40 in commissions

    2. 4 clicks on Adsense ads X an average return of .80 per click = $2.40

Even if you can get a 10% CTR and get some very high adsense commissions you will be far short of what you could make through affiliate products.

All of that said, there is a model where you can go very wide with content (1000's of pages) over time and drive significant ad revenues with Adsense, but that's a very challenging model.

Seems like we were thinking along the same lines when we made our post.

If I knew this post was going up I wouldn't have post.

      Sorry For the Duplicate explanation

    I say you do both.

Testing is the only true answer for your question.

    But here is the dilio:

Say you send 200 visitors to an adsense page and 100 of them click on your ads. Depending on the niche you could get a few dollars. But if you send 200 targeted visitors to a good affiliate offer that pays a minimum of $20. Just two sales and that;s $40 already.

So To Conclude I would Say Do Both

    Hope That Helps

Affiliate marketing rocks much harder than adsense in most cases because of the leverage of the numbers involved.

Sure, there's a little more work involved but the payoff is enormous.

    Hope This Helps!!

Would have to agree, I would say you do both as testing both avenues helps make it clearer. Targeted traffic is the key, if you send hundreds of visitors to an adsense page typically only half of them click on your ads. If you've got a good niche picked out, you could get a few dollars. But if you send hundreds of targeted visitors to a good affiliate link that pays a minimum of say $10-20 dollars, you could make $40 a day. Start with the affliate marketing and then move onto the paid sources like adsense, it saves money and is more productive in the long run! My 2 cents!

  • I thought starting out with affiliate marketing was best. I made a few sites and started pushing CB products. However, I made one site an adsense site. I found a high paying keyword, built a blog, submitted four articles to EZA, and I have made close to $100 from that little work.

I still focus on AM, but adsense works!

The great thing about affiliate marketing is that your profits are ultimately endless. Strategy is key but if you join a solid network with a dedicated affiliate manager there to help you choose the best ad campaigns for your traffic sources and targeting efforts you are on your way to success. It's not a bad idea to also include some adsense promotion if you are intrigued to do so. However, affiliate marketing is definitely a money maker!

I will choose both. Affiliates and adsense but in my experience I make more money doing affiliates better than adsense.

    Hi..
why dont you try both of them, because affiliate and adsense basically on internet business, so you can try affiliate while doing adsense marketing.
but, if want to choose one of them, consider to try adsense because it is quite easy than affiliate.
    goog luck!

When I first started out I would say adsense was easier because you dont have to sell anything, all you need is just get lots of traffi. However, to make serious money do affiiate marketing.
