Driving traffic for embarrassing niches

Evening everyone!

So I've been racking my brains for a while on this one now, and thought I'd throw it out to some of you wonderful people!

I have a few sites that provide information for health related matters that people may not be happy about having, but would probably be even less happy about people knowing what they're suffering from.

These aren't new websites, they're fairly 'authoritative' in that they provide a large amount of informative content in their respective niches, and get a decent amount of traffic.

You know the saying though- 'always want more!'

It's a great source of pain to me (as I usually try and build sites specifically not to do this) that a significant (over 60%) proportion of the traffic for these sites comes from SEs. I've done a fair amount of guest blogging/blog commenting on relevant sites, and started to dabble in article syndication.

I'm considering investing in a few banner ads on related sites, but aside from this, is there anything I'm missing?

For other sites I can often make use of social media- however the chances of people 'liking' or sharing a site of this nature with their friends and contacts seems pretty slim!

I just can't shake this feeling that there's a goldmine of traffic somewhere that I'm not tapping into, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is!

Many thanks in advance, and I'll hand it over to you!

Have you tried forums related to your niche?

How about searching google for your keyword term and locating the top blogs and
then doing banner ads on those sites.

You may even be able to think of related terms and add banners to those sites.

Also, have you tried CPV in either a URL or Keyword campaign? (These work really well, especially for niche related sites).

    I hope this helps

Ooh, just remembered that even though your site has authority, there is
an authority blogging platform that can get you even more traffic. You may want
to add your articles there too. IM me for the name.

I'd go with the forum idea too. A lot of times these "embarrassing" niches will have popular dedicated forums because obviously people want to keep the anonymity of the 'net, but they have to talk to someone about it. Good luck!

Make a YouTube video of the niche, you don't have to talk in the video either. Make a powerpoint presentation with music in the background.

Just make sure that you provide value.
So I suggest watching other videos that are in your niche, analyze them, see how you can add more value, and make a video

If you have money to spend you can make it a featured video, or if you know how to rank within YouTube or in Google, then just rank that video.
Remember that your video will also appear in related videos bar which will give you extra views

To make your channel more visible, have a niche related word in your channel name and go ahead comment on videos in the same niche. That way people will see that you channel is niche related and might check it out. Just make sure to make really good comments - no garbage.

    good luck!

    Thanks everyone- I can't believe I hadn't thought of forum marketing! <facepalm>

Russerg, YouTube seems like a good way to go, I don't have a huge amount of experience with video marketing so will have to bone up on that a little.

shmerns, thanks for your help, I've sent you a PM

    Cheers again everyone!

Yes forum marketing, I have joined a few non IM forums in my niches and the traffic I am getting seems to be well targeted. My bounce rate has dropped because people are on the sites longer reading the content. Find a few forums and start answering their questions.
