Domain Name for new writing service

I'm looking to get into the PLR article writing service and want to buy a domain so I can sell my articles. In addition to PLR I'd offer a service where I ghostwrite to individuals as well. This is just me writing, not a group or big massive business or anything.

With that in mind is it smarter to just have a generic type name like, "GreatArticles.com" (obviously not available but just something generic).
OR
Something like "Seatbelt99Writing.com". Seatbelt99 being my username here and on several other sites where I've written. I wonder if this would help because someone from one site might recognize the name and know I do good work.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think this is as good.

It completely loses the personal touch, the individuality.

When you're selling a service, that matters.

One of the things you're selling is constancy: your ghostwriting clients know that they'll get the same writer every time, and that they have the opportunity to build a relationship with someone who gets to learn about them, their business and their needs. That individuality is worth something.

That retains the individuality and a little bit of "branding factor", and might be perfectly viable, but it still loses some of the personal touch.

I think something like "JohnWilsonWrites.com", or "JohnWilsonWriting.com", is better all round.

At least, it is if your name happens to be John Wilson.

I don't know about other forums, but in this one you can very easily change your username through the help desk, and I think if you want to sell a service to Warriors, that might actually be a good thing to do. I don't suggest it's necessary, but it'll help rather than harm, I think.

I did it, myself. (I used to be just "Alexa S" when I first came here - and I'm not even selling anything here).

Thank you. If I changed to just my name I would have to come up with a pseudonym because my name is long. 17 letters for first and last (I've got a nice long Polish name. lol) I don't think I'd want MichaelLastNameWriting.com would I?

I see what you mean, Mr Szymanowski.

No, maybe not, then ... but there are other options, depending on how personal/formal you want it to look? And on how much the long url bothers you. (I don't think it bothers clients much, and people surely get there by clicking on a link, anyway, not by typing it in? So maybe even the Polish spelling isn't an issue?).

You can use a first name only. It's personal. It isn't unprofessional.

I admit that a really long domain-name wouldn't bother me, personally. (I recognise that not everyone will agree with this).

I don't think there's anything wrong with WritingByMichael.com at all. (Though for myself, I admit I'd want to hyphenate the three words. Again, not everyone's going to agree with that!)

I think there's a lot of "personal choice" in it. But I do think, for selling a service with which clients are going to get to know you, and hopefully return, that using a name does actually help.

Very good point above from Rose, also ... "articles" is limiting.

Here's one thing you should think about (I didn't). When I started my writing service I used the name "rose's articles." But I now write many things other than articles. I'm especially focusing on ebooks. Now I'm in the midst of working on a name change. So think ahead about where you want your business to go and not just where you're at right now.

      Good Advice. Thanks!

I did think of that a little bit. I was at first going to just do something like Seatbelt99PLR.com but figured I want to do more than just PLR...I think I'd be just sticking with writing so maybe Seatbelt99Writing.com, or WritingByMichael.com or something like that would be good.

Then again, My sister mentioned she might want to do some part time writing for me if I ever needed it so maybe not my first name...

I'm glad I'm taking my time and thinking this through!

From all my research, and from what the truly great gurus will tell you, Branding is the way to go. Therefor something that speaks for you, like your name and or that shows your personality. Something that carries your around the web and builds trust and confidence in your abilities. This allows you to expand your business into other areas with momentum.

Get your personal domain like yourname.com and set that up as your primary domain name and try out some different marketabe domain names as your advertised name that redirect to your primary domain name until you find one that you really like. Once that happens and you decide to marry it, move the site to your new (and proven) domain name and do 301 redirects to transfer any accrued rankings, links and traffic from your starter domain name.

I have had to do this a few times, and while it is a bit more work its gives u a chance to get your service going, keep a personal touch and earn some revenue while you are trying to find a permanent marketable domain name.

Also, I agree with the comment about not using the word ARTICLES as you may end up genersting new revenue through different writing services that overpower your potential from your original game plan.

    Just a thought

There's always the theme where you pick a name that doesn't lock you in at all, and brand it for whatever you want like all these (foolish but not in a bad way) Web 2.0 names. We branded Core Zero. It means nothing, really, but people know Core Zero is web and social media design and consulting. Try that angle, too.
