I have been reding threads that say you may lose money in ads etc before you start to succeed in IM.

But it got me thinking do you actually need to spend any money to make money? Ok you need to pay for hosting and your domain, but is there any need to buy anything else?

Maybe an auto-responder once you are ready to start getting visitors.

You either need to work hard yourself or invest money but no, you don't need much money to create online success.

No- lots of marketers do article syndication, where you get traffic from writing high quality articles and having them syndicated to websites in your niche.

You don't need to invest anything at all to start making money online, just to start a bigger online project.

It's not necessary to have or spend money to make money online at all. There are a number of ways to make money including gig sites, affiliate sales via video/articles/etc., and providing services.

As with most everything though, the faster, stronger, 'better' tools and services are those that cost money, so you usually get more bang for your buck with them

Additionally, if I know that for free I can make $1000 in a month but if I invest $100 I can make it in a week, I'm going to go the paid route over and over.

One of the things about using/investing money is that it allows you to scale your successes much more rapidly.

All of this said, like you pointed out... you can also lose money
