Delivering video content with eBook

You can't insert a video into a PDF file.

What you can do is to take screenshots of the videos with the "play now" button, insert them into the document and hyperlink them to the video's!

Why not just turn it into a membership site and break your content up into modules and chapters?

It would make it look much more valuable than an ebook with embeded videos (if it was possible).

It is possible!

I was facing the same dilemma a while back, and all I kept thinking of was two options:

* membership site with streamed videos
* some sort of an eBook solutions where videos are included in the file

The second option was impossible to think of because of the large file size etc, but the first one required me to change the concept of a product to a membership site which didn't really seem to be the best model for my audience...

Eventually my work colleague came up with this genius idea I wouldn't have thought in a thousand years - why not EMBED STREAMED VIDEOS INTO THE EBOOK?

That's what I did, and it works beautifully!

I'm using an HTML compiler HTML Executable - Website and Ebook Compiler Software to compile the eBook into a secure EXE file and all videos are streamed to it! Basically you need to create a website project (I use XSitePro for it), import it into the HTML compiler and distribute the eBook.

This approach has a lot of advantages:

1. Videos are streamed YET it seems as an actual product
2. In the unlikely case of illegal distribution etc you can simply change video URLs and re-compile the eBook - old videos won't work on anymore whoever got the eBooks for free
3. Even if you decide to migrate to a membership model later on, you can use the SAME EXACT videos - all the heavy lifting is going to be done when you upload them to Amazon S3 servers! (I guess that's the most popular option, at least I use it).

That's actually not a bad approach, although if you use the HTML2exe compiler, you are alienating your Mac users (unless they use Parallels)

Yes, I'm aware of it but I just came to realize that I can't please everyone. Mac market is growing but PC users constitute the overwhelming majority of my target audience so a few lost sales was a risk I was willing to take in order to be able to offer my product in a digital format.

I would suggest doing what taskeman proposed, screenshot of the video hyperlinked or create (or have created) a quick graphic button that says something like "Push Here For Module 1 - Video 1" which then takes them to your website that plays your video either hosted on your own site on a platform like Amazon's Cloud.

I think this is t he best advice as well. I've done this in the past and it works perfectly and it's easy and quick.

I really would urge you to spend the time to create a membership site. It's the best way of delivering your content and gives you lots of flexibility in the future for your product and future products you create.

You can certainly embed videos within PDF.

Use either Adobe X Pro PDF editor, edit PDF | Adobe Acrobat X Pro (More expensive solution)

or

PDF Printer » PDF Printer - Multimedia PDF Converter creates Audio and Video PDFs » PdfPrinterPro.com (Less expensive solution)

With either software you can embed videos within PDF.
