Wordpress HELP Needed

I posted an article on my blog and when I visited the blog the post appears to be there, but if I click on the category I posted it under I get a 404 error.

Any ideas anyone??

Thanks
Nick

hmmm, I wonder if it has something to do with SEO friendly links or your permalink structure.

Have a look at the link and see if it is different than the link as it shows on your homepage of the blog (on the homepage just hover over the post title and compare that to the link in the category).

The home page is a static page so the post doesn't appear on the homepage. The other category posts have the same linking structure and they appear ok.

Thanks for your feedback guys. It was a plugin called top-level-cats that was the culprit. I've removed it and made my base category something SEO friendly.

Glad you got it sorted. I find 9/10 times I have a problem with WordPress its to do with a plugin. The actual core code is rock solid and it's pretty hard to configure it incorrectly. Wordpress Mu on other hand .....

make sure you didn't check more than one category, if so, that sometimes throws off the post and it only recognizes one of them

    hope that helps,

I have ran into the same problem before on my blogs. The reason why I ran into problems was because I wrote the post then changed the permalink structure later. This lead the link not being valid.

The problem is that your blog is not in the parent directory and so the comments etc arent working. Try the other permalink options - settings menu / permalinks and see if it works.

Spoke too soon! If I post using the default permalink structure its ok but if I use custom %postname% I get the 404 when click the category in the blog??

I am not sure about this but don't you need a couple of slashed to separate the link.

If you go into permalinks and say choose month then you will see the slashes.

    /%postname%/

/ separate the url eg http://theimclub.com/article title

Check out this post from theyoungmarketer yesterday. My answer didn't help at all (!) but he found the problem for himself and posted the answer.

Thanks Rosetrees, I had a look but his problem wasn't the same. I've messed about with the permalinks and it seems to be ok now, but I've been here before!

Is there a cache somewhere that needs to be flushed?
