Is Free Traffic Worth it?

For those of you who are in a constant battle with
"FREE traffic" vs. "Paid traffic", you know you're not alone.

There's nothing more painful than checking your traffic
stats and seeing 0's all the way through.

Here are a list of my best free traffic sources.
Please feel free to add to this short list! TY!

1. Safelists (you must have the right offer though)
2. Forum Posting (must give value)
3. Craigslist (post in smaller cities. You stay at the top longer)
4. Youtube (create videos and use tags to get more hits)
5. Article Marketing (great, but slow)

I have plenty more, however feel free to add.
Have a blessed day!

I'll add guest blogging. I love guest blogging and am getting into it more and more. You make a lot of great connections, gain more exposure in your industry, build backlinks, and of course drive lots of targeted traffic when done right.

To find guest blog opportunities you can check out these two sites:

    MyBlogGuest
    GuestPlug

or type the following search strings into Google:

"Your niche keyword" + "guest blog"
"Your niche keyword" + "submit a guest post"
"Your niche keyword" + "looking for contributors"
"Your niche keyword" + "looking for writers"
"Your niche keyword" + "submit a post"

Look through the results and read what the blog owners are looking for. If you fit their requirements contact them and let them know you want to submit a guest post, they will have their contact information on the page.

    Not so.

It can be really fast: try having an article published in an ezine which is distributed to 10,000 (or to 40,000) pre-targeted, qualified, subscribed readers and see what floods of targeted traffic, opt-ins and sales you get within the first 12 hours.

There are people in this forum making 6-figures per month from free traffic.

But publishing an Ezine to 10.000 or 40.000 is not free. is it right? it usually costs some money but i agree with you it makes some sales and opt in in short time

    • Free traffic has much more value than paid traffic. Although getting natural traffic is a slow process, it produces long term results. Forum posting, article submission, classified ads, press releases, and guest posting are some of the best ways to get organic traffic for free.

Has more value based on what metrics? I'm really curious to know what those are.

Nothing has built my businesses faster than paid traffic. Nothing. It's easier to track, it's easier to scale up, and short of a super bowl commercial, nothing else compares in terms of speed.

Hey, I'm a fan of free traffic, but none of it is truly free. You pay with your time or someone else's time.

I'm just getting into guest blogging, but also think pinterest is worth a look, if you're in the right niche.

Quick question about guest blogging... if you have a blog, and receive exclusive content... is there any downside, I mean, SEO wise... having links in the article to other sites?

Should you check to see if these are in a bad neighbourhood so to speak...

      Am, I worrying about nothing?

That's a good question and it's something that has been debated before.

External linking is natural and if you never link to external websites it could actually hurt your seo. Linking to other websites where your readers can learn more provides value to them and Google recognizes that.

So as long as the website you link to is relevant and of good quality you should be ok.

You can look at many authority sites for proof of this, take ProBlogger.net for example. Each guest blog post there has external links at the end linking to the author's site. They wouldn't do it if it hurt their website.

Always use your best judgement though. Don't link to spam sites, only allow anchor text that is relevant, etc.

Guest blog posts are great, YouTube (high authority site) videos with links to your webpages and backlinks to the YouTube page URL, and some excellent SEO work (keyword density, H1,2,3 tags containing keyword, etc). And of course forum posting, article submission. All of them great and typically FREE

In any case - there is no such thing as free traffic. You either pay with your (usually wasted) time or your money.

I based my entire model on free traffic, but am now seeing the error of my ways.

I really like free traffic, which of course, is not free... as it takes time effort and essentially money to rank, but I do think it holds more value, but, in the end, it's the results that count.

I have looked into cpc, especially adcentre.

My main sites are amazon review sites, so, other than adcentre, what paid advertising do you think would work well?

Or, is it a case of trying different types to see what's best for your niche?

Free traffic is definitely worth it. Cant beat 100% profits on every sale made. And promote yourself for free in the right circles... and your free traffic can overtake your paid traffic amounts.

No one is saying it's not worth it. Of course it's worth it if you're getting getting measurable benefits such as opt-ins, sales, and net profit. That 100% profits is misleading. The time it takes someone to get 1,000 daily visitors (usually months if not longer) I'm getting that many in under an hour or less. Since time is money, I'm making money faster, while building a list. Sure you're keeping 100% of the profits you make, but you're not factoring the time you put into nor the opportunity cost of not using paid traffic correctly.

I disagree with your second assertion that one's free traffic can over take their paid traffic. That's only true if they're not buying enough traffic. With all the traffic inventory that's out there, I've never seen this to be true.

Many marketers start small and reinvest their profits. I started my first ad account with $200 and never looked back. Today you can start for less than that. Once you're at the point where you're buying a billion banner impressions and making more money in a week than most people make in a year, you'll never see free traffic the same way again.

People are just too impatient and want instant great results, if you want that then you'll need to invest big or know someone big, I don't need a million dollars tomorrow, I'm enjoying using mainly free or low cost methods at the moment to learn my way, I wouldn't have it any other way, the shortcuts are there but I want to run the race, i want to be a good runner rather than just being good at knowing the shortcuts and that takes time and effort, but I am ok with that because I enjoy the IM game

I've given up on free traffic as it gives Google too much leverage over my business.

If the offer and funnel are good enough so that you earn more per sale than it costs for that sale then the sky is the limit. If you are running on free traffic you need to know what your earnings per visitor are and optimise to increase that until you can afford to pay for traffic and scale.

I can only talk for myself here, but I was lazy with SEO landing pages. If it didn't cost me anything and I didn't sell anything so what - have another beer. If I spent $100 getting some visitors and didn't sell anything then I would drop everything, create and split test more landers, create and split test more banners, try another offer / traffic source, get creative until I made a profit.

I need a bit more info on article marketing

Let's say I published 50 articles to some content farm that was hit by panda, a year has passed so they no longer have exclusive rights to the articles - then will ezines let me publish the exact same articles to their site?

Also how will I hit 10,000 to 40,000 people on ezines, unless you have been building up a solid lidt of subscribers for a long period of time that ain't going to happen

newbie goes to ezines and posts article - what kind of exposure is he looking at? maybe 200-300 views and of those maybe 20/30 will view his/her author bio box and of those maybe 2/3 will click the link in the bio box, is that a fair guess?

And please remember this is all speculation on my part as I know very little about article marketing, I am just making huge assumptions because well I don't know everything about everything, that's why I am here, hungry to learn as ever....it's all about productivty as far as I am concerned and wise use of time

Firstly there is no such thing as free traffic, you have to spend time to build free traffic and time is money.

Admittedly some people are cash poor and time rich but why do people always call it free traffic?

At least with proper paid traffic you can measure the cost an the result and usually in hours rather than months

I've always used article marketing, it's a great long term strategy for traffic generation. I have articles I wrote years ago that still send traffic to some of my sites.
I agree wholeheartedly with those that mention guest blogging as well. I use this all the time and the traffic is targeted and already warmed up to you. Let's face it, if they read your guest AND click through to your site, they really like what you have to say and the way you're saying it.
Free traffic is still a great way to send visitors to your site.
      Thanks

One the strategies that I have learned from a 6 figure monthly IM guy and now implement is to turn free traffic into paid traffic.

What I mean by this is finding and using quality outsourcing to repurpose and distribute your quality content. So for example you would write a quality 1000 word article and then pay to have it transferred or transformed into a slide show, video, ebook, podcast, kindle book (maybe combine 5-10 1000 word articles) and then distributed to the relative sharing mediums.

Free traffic can be residual and extremely powerful and you can scale it with smart outsourcing.

So called "free" traffic is obviously not free if you consider your time to be worth money - which it is. Choose what works best and what you can afford at the time. Make it work, see results, test, test, test and scale.

This has been my approach ~

I just want to comment on the thread title.

You asked if free traffic was worth it and I feel that's a really odd question. Traffic is traffic. It's not about if it's paid or free. It's about where the traffic comes from, who the people are, and what they are looking for.

The answer to your question is, only if the traffic is targeted

BUT, just to go further, just because traffic isn't targeted, doesn't mean it can't be profitable, you can always make untargeted traffic targeted by studying it
