Using Fiverr To Create A Nice Side Income

Fiverr, as we all know it, is filled with buyer traffic.

I would love to know what kind of products have you sold and how successful have you been in using Fiverr to create a nice side income?

Services sell much better than products there- when I was doing fiverr, I sold a few ebooks, but many more services. (Trick is to find something that's relatively push-button, but still provides value.)

      • Just make sure you always deliver what you say you will. One bad review out the gate can kill you in any venture.

Well, it certainly can on Fiverr.

I started on Fiverr early, in April 2010. I offered earrings for $5.00. This was a loss leader, but I wanted to quickly build up lots of feedback and become Featured. I figured I had a chance at this if I sent a ton of traffic to Fiverr -- that's the metric they were using in those days.

I sent a message to my list, explained Fiverr, told them they'd be getting essentially an 80% discount off the usual price if they bought my Fiverr gig.

I made a bunch of sales this way. But unfortunately one of the list members felt that even though the earrings were great and she paid a tiny fraction of what she normally did, registering for Fiverr was way more trouble than she should have to go to and she left a scathing negative feedback. Nice.

The neg killed any chance of being made a Featured seller. And the traffic made no difference; it turns out all Fiverr cares about are visits via Facebook or Twitter, which to me is remarkably short-sighted.

It's just as well because you can no longer put a link to your website in your profile or description anyway.

If you're going to work with Fiverr, make sure the time / profit relation is right. Don't do something that takes you hours and do it for $4. Only put tasks in which you can automate in a way or another.

I agree except with one caveat.

The only reason to put more time consuming tasks on Fiverr is if you know people will take an upgrade package. If you can't automate it or do it really quick, it is a bad idea.

I find numerous Fiverr posts in this forum these days... I suggest you prioritize in providing services since most Fiverr buyers patronize services more than they do on products.

      Michael,

Check out post #3 above, she seems to know a thing or two about the information you're looking for... and no, I don't know her, Just saw the relation between your question and her signature link.

      Good luck.

      The following should help...

    Hiya!

Fiverr is a great site, I love how you can find practically ANYTHING on there!

It's not just about having a good service, it's coming across to your audience as professional and trustworthy. Try creating a professional video of yourself, this way you are able to create a relationship with the potential customer as they feel like you are talking directly to them through the camera.

Another important thing is listing the benefits of people buying your service, tell them all the great things about it and make them feel that they'll be losing out if they DON'T buy from you!

All the best my friend, I hope you find something that works for you

service needs to be done quickly to make it worthwhile.

I never had a huge success with Fiverr.. the difficulty of getting customers is that they buy from the experts. the challenge is to become that expert

    • the difficulty of getting customers is that they buy from the experts. the challenge is to become that expert

I had to smile when I read that. Imagine, someone who dances in a hot dog costume is an expert!

The secret is you needed to have gotten in early, before there were 750,000 gigs on the site. Not helpful now, I know.

There are two types of people on Fiverr:

      1. Those who are selling worthless and potentially even harmful services which people buy by the truckload because they desperately need backlinks or +1s or Facebook Likes or whatever and don't understand these services won't help, and

      2. Those who offer genuinely useful and beneficial services but either don't know how to market them or are fighting customer ignorance.

In traditional marketing, you sell a service or product by demonstrating features and benefits. This is very difficult to do in 450 characters. But you can also make a video.

Take the time to script your video, don't just pop up on the webcam and say what your product is. If you've done this work before, give examples.

"Hi, this is fluffythewondercat. I'll do basic research for you. For $5 I will provide you with data, reviews, links or text on your chosen topic. One customer wanted to know what was the best automatic self-cleaning litterbox for her cat. Another was writing a term paper on the Peloponnesian War and needed to flesh it out. A third wanted to know if Warren Buffett had ever lost money on an investment. Now, I don't do writing, I simply provide you with raw information and references so you can write it yourself. I'll save you hours of hunting online, so order my gig today, exclusively on Fiverr."

      3. Okay, I lied. There's a third kind of person: Someone who offers something nobody wants. Don't be that guy.

Personally, I have used Fiverr a little.

That said, I have used it mainly for SEO work. With that in mind, building legitimate links, I literally sort by 'new' - to get new sites and sellers.

Most of the sellers with hundreds of reviews have...hundreds of links on their sites. Of course, those just running SE Nuke X or whatever are another matter.

My advice is to be legitimate. There are tons of offers on there offering backlinks, for example. I probably find 1 out of 500 that is worth anything more than spam links. And usually I need to follow that up with a PM to confirm. So much junk, just make sure you are the gem and not more junk.

I've made just over $5000 writing articles on fiverr and another $10,000 or so from customers I started working with on fiverr and have since moved off (shhh...don't tell fiverr!) This is since about October 2011 or so.

I started out offering high quality articles of 1000 words or more. Since this is such a crazy good deal for someone looking for a native English speaking/writing person I got lots of orders (I put links in my sig here and digital point to drive traffic to them).

I then dropped it to 500 word articles. Then 400...then 350.

I currently offer 300 word articles done in about 7 days or 200 word articles done in about 24 hours.

So, the moral of my story is to start off offering WAY more value for the price than you normally would. This will get you orders and positive reviews. Then slowly back it off until you're offering a service at a price you're comfortable with.

    Hope that helps.

I use fiverr all the time for SEO related tasks.

A lot them is just the vendor hittin' the "Go" button on SENuke X but it saves me paying 150 bucks per month (or whatever it is) on the software.

As suggested by others, if you sell stuff on fiverr make sure you can automize it and make it worth your $4 that you earn.

I sell content/copy gigs and although I just started to get serious with it 5 weeks ago I've pocketed $244 or so and worked a few deals for some pretty decent $ off the back end.

I outsource some articles if they are not too difficult and still make $2-$2.50 per 350/500 word article for 5-30 minutes of work. I write all the copy myself.

One little "trick" is always under promise and over deliver. If you know you can perform a gig in 2 days--tell em' 4 and deliver in 2! If you offer 350 word articles give them 425-450. Whats a litle extra as long as it is still in your acceptable profit range i.e. outsourcing and/or your time? Believe me it can pay off to show them some love!

Remember to communicate with them as well. I have spent time answering simple SEO questions I think some are just to lazy to Google and that has paid off as well.

If possiblle, make your title unique from the others in your market and try to fit in a way to over deliver besides your stated time frame. If your comp is only offering X and Y then try and give them Z also and in a way that still makes brings a profit you are comfortable with.

Just make sure you always deliver what you say you will. One bad review out the gate can kill you in any venture.

    Hope this helps...

I agree with a lot of what's been said here. In my experience on there (I've just had a look), I've earned $728 dollars on there on a couple of months. It's not my job, it's a nice top-up to my job, so I'm happy to have those 'side-dollars' once in a while, even if the conversion to GBP kills me sometimes!

So, in my experience, services sell much, much, much more than products.

Start off by offering more than you should. Get a few feedbacks, then reduce the amount you offer, then get a few dozen good feedbacks, then eventually get yourself to the place you should be, in terms of time devoted per dollar earned.

Overdeliver when you can, either by delivering early or giving them more than your listing promised.

I don't do any writing work on fiverr, they revenue from each gig would pay for a couple of words of my normal, corporate price!! I'm not willing to downvalue my writing on there, but there are other small services I can provide really well, and which I quite enjoy.

    The trick seems to be:
Think about what you can do
Think about what other people hate to have to do
Think about whether you like any of the things that other people hate
See if the answer to these three questions can merge together to create the *perfect* fiverr gig for you.

Alternatively, scroll endlessly through page after page of listings, and by page 78 are genuinely considering dressing up as a leprechaun on video to sing happy birthday to anyone who chucks you the dollar coins ;-)

I have sold a few PLR ebooks on fiverr and tradebits. In fact, I sold more of those at tradebits than fiverr so my conclusion is that it is better to provide a service at fiverr such as backlinking, social booking, simple graphics design or simple SEO. However, I have never tried providing any service as the competition is very high.
