I agree except with one caveat.

The only reason to put more time consuming tasks on Fiverr is if you know people will take an upgrade package. If you can't automate it or do it really quick, it is a bad idea.

I had to smile when I read that. Imagine, someone who dances in a hot dog costume is an expert!

The secret is you needed to have gotten in early, before there were 750,000 gigs on the site. Not helpful now, I know.

There are two types of people on Fiverr:

1. Those who are selling worthless and potentially even harmful services which people buy by the truckload because they desperately need backlinks or +1s or Facebook Likes or whatever and don't understand these services won't help, and

2. Those who offer genuinely useful and beneficial services but either don't know how to market them or are fighting customer ignorance.

In traditional marketing, you sell a service or product by demonstrating features and benefits. This is very difficult to do in 450 characters. But you can also make a video.

Take the time to script your video, don't just pop up on the webcam and say what your product is. If you've done this work before, give examples.

"Hi, this is fluffythewondercat. I'll do basic research for you. For $5 I will provide you with data, reviews, links or text on your chosen topic. One customer wanted to know what was the best automatic self-cleaning litterbox for her cat. Another was writing a term paper on the Peloponnesian War and needed to flesh it out. A third wanted to know if Warren Buffett had ever lost money on an investment. Now, I don't do writing, I simply provide you with raw information and references so you can write it yourself. I'll save you hours of hunting online, so order my gig today, exclusively on Fiverr."

3. Okay, I lied. There's a third kind of person: Someone who offers something nobody wants. Don't be that guy.

Personally, I have used Fiverr a little.

That said, I have used it mainly for SEO work. With that in mind, building legitimate links, I literally sort by 'new' - to get new sites and sellers.

Most of the sellers with hundreds of reviews have...hundreds of links on their sites. Of course, those just running SE Nuke X or whatever are another matter.

My advice is to be legitimate. There are tons of offers on there offering backlinks, for example. I probably find 1 out of 500 that is worth anything more than spam links. And usually I need to follow that up with a PM to confirm. So much junk, just make sure you are the gem and not more junk.
