At last someone is giving something back for free

A few days ago someone asked the question: why do so many fail? I answered with the suggestion that it has a lot to do with the confusion unwittingly or otherwise given out by those whose sole purpose is making money. They don't appear to care about whether what they sell is valuable to the new marketer with the result that hard drives get stuffed up with pricey downloads that are forgotten almost as soon as they are read or received.

Many warriors had different reasons for failure but my main point was about why those who are making it online, who are so successful, who brag about their wealth, are not giving out basic information about how they got started rather than how many millions they are now making.

Well, I don't know what effect it had on anyone. But today I got an email from a list owner to which I am subscribed with this message (it was not a post in the forum)

I read the report and have to congratulate and thank Brett for taking the time and effort to give something for free to anyone who needs advice and help on overcoming the flaws in order to succeed on line. He has cottoned on to the fact that unless those who are trying so hard to overcome the pitfalls are helped to get up their own markets and, therefore, their income will dry up.

This report is completely free and you don't even have to supply your email address to get it. I receive nothing in return for mentioning it here except to allow my colleagues in the forum to take advantage of it.

Hope this helps anyone who has been in need of this type of information and support.

    Hi Norma,

That's great, and I'm sure many of the new people appreciate it too.

But I do have a question for you just to be fair. Does Brett know that you posted this link in the WF for everyone to download?

You probably already know this, but most list owners send specials and freebies out to their subscribers, and they are usally meant for them alone. I know you gave him full credit in your post which is good, but it isn't the same thing, and this stuff can be misinterpreted very easily.

If you didn't get his permission, you might want to take that download link down until you at least check with him.

    All the best ...

        Hi Jamie,

I'm glad you said something about it too. It made me feel better about making my comment.

Personally, I know many marketers that would not approve of someone posting there deals (free or not) in this forum. Out of respect for them, I would think the poster would at least ask.

Who knows though, Norma may have asked Brett before posting it here. She's been around long enough to know I would think.

You are right to raise this issue but it is not an issue as this is part of a blog that Brett has published widely on the Internet and placed links to it in Social groups. You can check it out here Think Big Publications Post Topic I Wrote This Marketing Blueprint For You.... The fact that he also sent it to his lists is not so unusual. He has obviously written the report in the vein of good marketing and to give back something for nothing.

You can rest assured I would not cross the line in this regard. Brett was informed several hours ago that I would put a post in this forum and he has not raised any objection. The point of posting the link here was to allow others to find it and read this very worthwhile report so they too can be helped. If this gets up anyone's nose for whatever reason then I am sorry for them.

    Hey Norma,

I have no doubt about your intentions. I think I know you well enough to say if you say it's fine then it is.

I was just bringing it up because there have been a few members who posted things they shouldn't have and that wasn't their's to give away as free products.

    Hope you understand.

Btw, thanks for taking the time to clarify everything. It makes life so much easier for everyone.

Hi Mary, no problems. I am glad you raised the issue for the sake of others. By the way I forgot to mention that Brett specifically asks for readers of the report to share it with others. He comments on his blog that everyone in Internet Marketing who is struggling should have the right to read it.

Hope that satisfies everyone. My intentions are strictly honorable and to give credit where it is due for the benefit of all. While I have received Brett's messages for years he has never done the wrong thing that I know of. Read the comments on his blogs to see what people think of him.

Unfortunately Ted we are overwhelmed by constantly being bombarded with new deals, new ideas, new projects, that we forget and need reminding of what the real focus of our efforts should be.

It is great when people write something from the heart of their personal experiences, struggles and successes without the hype, the price tag or the expectation of reward. its great too when little things are brought to the surface and shared so openly.

Glad that so many are finding the report worthwhile.

Brett's a super smart guy and very friendly. He's always delivering value. I got to meet him once at a seminar and took him out to lunch, we had a great conversation. What I like about him & his products is that he's not the type to hold any key pieces of information back... he lays it all on the table for you.

I've been on his list for quite some time. Thanks for sharing this with those who aren't on his list...

Thanks for posting that Norma and to Brett for writing it.

When setting up my ecommerce stores I did the same thing that everyone else does and bought more information than I could read and put to use.

When you do that there is so much conflicting information that it is hard to get started. However, I learned that you don't need to know it all before you start. Just start and keep moving forward and it will work out.

My favorite part of the report was that I feel, in my opinion anyway, that
he really nailed the big problem that most people have and why they can't
duplicate the success of 6 and 7 figure earners. Too many of them just
can't relate to that low level of knowledge anymore. The gap is so wide
that the info, though it's really very good, is just over the head of most
      people.

I would recommend that everybody just starting out read this report.

That's my take on the whole subject, Steven. Why do so many think that by bragging about what they are earning that its helpful. They are only looking at selling stuff instead of looking at the way people starting out have to interpret their spiel. In my opinion that kind of tactics are causing the failures?

Who cares how many world trips they do or how many houses or smart looking cars the so-called gurus own? If they are not contributing to others being successful then their messages and the things they sell are a waste of time and money.

Lets get down to the basics. What do people starting out really need to know? How much info can they absorb? Does it really hurt them to know the same starting points, no matter how hard others had it, as an example of what they might do to help themselves.

I would rather read of someone's struggles who made it, even if in a small way, then of someone's wealth creation afterward.

        God bless

I think the biggest reason for "failure" is that people don't take enough action or give up before achieving the goals that they didn't bother to set.

This is not an IM thing, but true of any business that has a low barrier to entry.

I say "failure" in quotes because it's debatable if you've really failed if you haven't taken serious action yet.

It's easy to spend months surfing and reading and not doing anything that will generate income, while thinking you are working... then one day you give up because you've spent 6 months with no money to show for it. But you haven't really failed since you didn't take any meaningful action.

Chris, you are right to a point. But many go in circles trying to find the best way to take action. They need a starting point, a direction. Take an apprentice just starting out. Is he given the keys to the business and told to run it? No! He has to start from the ground up. Observing and following the more experienced who, in turn, came through the ranks.

That's why forums like this one are great. They are schools where new comers can learn the ropes, try out their skills, get critiques, ask questions and get nurtured.

Unfortunately there is no discipline for the new comers who try to get there on their own. They are given the keys and swallow the hype of those who convince them that they can not only run the business they endeavor to start but that they can earn a fortune doing it. So they part with the hefty price tag to buy another product or e-book that will do nothing for them. That's why they fail.

As Brett points out in his article success does not come overnight. He worked at it, learned and nurtured his skills until he was comfortable doing what he wanted to do and then, and only then, did he start to make a little money.

All too often people want to just get involved in IM and go to the top overnight. Occasionally it works out. In 95% of the cases, according to well published figures, it does not. Lets continue to nurture what the newcomers have before they take on the burden of running the show and trying to teach others what many have not and cannot learn for themselves.

Its what the newbies in here are aiming for as explained in so many of their posts.

This is what Brett and many warriors are trying to get across.

I still find it funny that people think they are owed something for free. Most of the successful people that I know figured it out on their own through action like Chris stated.

Chris was absolutely correct. If people can't figure this out than they don't belong in business.

I don't care how much FREE stuff is available, those same people won't make it online.

We are all trying to make a living online. People always complain that they are sold and nothing is for free. Instead of trying to make sales I would suggest you just give it away for free and then lets see how you feed your family.

I invested a lot of money buying courses and taking the time to put it into action. That is one of the reasons I am making money online and others are not.

Dude, this thing of realizing that all that thinking and feeling and knowing and learning and more thinking, more learning hit home (hard) this weekend.

Was having this discussion with a good friend just today about this.

      About Failing:
Failing is nothing but a state of mind. It's a mindset. It's a subjective attitude that is brought about by past circumstances, past experience, and our present attitude about how we feel about things. In this case, about what failing means to us.

If you agree that, even though you can CHOOSE to feel positive about what you have LEARNED and what you KNOW, you can also CHOOSE to change the way you feel about what failure means.

Thomas Edison about inventing the lightbulb-
Paraphrased; "I didn't fail 500 times trying to invent it, I SUCCEEDED in finding 500 ways NOT to make a lightbulb"

About The Subject Of Brents great Book:
First, I recommend this free ebook to anyone who wants to earn money online or offline. There's a lot of truth in those pages, and I'm reminded of the discoveries with myself the last 6 years.

That's about how long I have spent trying to figure out, time and time again, why I couldn't make a substancial amount of money with my graphic design business. God knows it wasn't due to a lack of skill.

I understood my problem was in taking action with what I already knew. When it came to taking action and following through..

      I sucked

And I don't call it failure anymore. In fact, I've probably found every possible way to NOT do business online.

That's from a guy that started listening (religiously) to Zig Z. in 1998, and about 10 other motivational motivators on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis. I lost friends because that about all I talked about. The ingredient that was missing was the "taking action" part of all that knowledge, and the "replacing the void" part.

      The Void:
That damn void is like attempting to dive into a swimming pool from a diving board for the first time...

First, you're really excited and all phsyced up about jumping in. You think to yourself "Oh, this looks so easy and it's gonna be so much fun!"

Untill you're now standing on the diving board looking down into the water.

Then, your mind starts searching for all the reasons why it shouldn't move your left foot forward. Suddenly, you can think of every excuse in your head. Your thinking changes, and pretty soon, you find yourself climbing back to where you came from..the thoughts of doing it.

Get back up that ladder and JUMP!

Don't doubt yourself. Just jump. The second time is much easier. Pretty soon, you'll be the guy that people are ticked off at, because you're having all the fun!

That void isn't so big and powerful now, is it? Trust yourself and take the first step. Then the second step until you reach the water.

Hi Norma...I downloaded and printed off the report, and have read it twice again since then...I join all the others who say that Brett hit the nail right on the proverbial head, and in a way that is crystal clear and straight to the point...major props to both Brett for writing the report, and you for 'spreading the word' about it to your fellow Warriors...

That's my take on the whole subject, Steven. Why do so many think that by bragging about what they are earning that its helpful. They are only looking at selling stuff instead of looking at the way people starting out have to interpret their spiel. In my opinion that kind of tactics are causing the failures?

Andy, lots of people give things for free but there is usually a catch to it. Just this morning (my time) I checked out what was supposed to be a free tool to use with Wordpress. When I got there I was confronted with a 'you will only see this once' spiel. I tried then to download the free tool only to get to another page where the offer had jumped from $30 to $40 with a last chance post. I just closed the site and forgot about it.

To give for free means you want nothing in return. Yes, I have seen Warriors do that often and we are all very grateful and richer to them for their time and effort. The really great posts in here are free and the advice given is invaluable. Many receive free help from the experts in IM through forums like this one.

That's what Brett has offered as well. He is giving this report to thousands throughout the internet. They can then send it to their lists, post it in forums, email it to friends, and so on.

There is a difference, however, between free and offers that pretend to be free. All too often these days free means there is a catch so get your wallet out. I guess that's what I was referring to in the headline for this thread. Nothing else was intended and certainly no offense was meant to the kind hearted souls in here who give so much.

      God bless

I have to agree. This truly captures "it," in my opinion. The clearest distillation of this conept that I've seen in the IM world. And, it certainly explains the paradox of why it seems to be that the only people who are able to use guru products successfully are already themselves successful or successfully on the road to making money.

Unfortunately Grant many don't expect a soft landing if they jump. Its that bit of assurance that's lacking. Jumping into things too quickly can be costly in more ways than one. What most people are looking for is a jumping site that's not too high and which they can understand.

I'd agree. Instead of looking at the surface of the water, they look at the bottom of the pool. Then they start thinking of all the wrong things that are not in alignment with their "dream" of diving in. That's what the void means to me. And it starts with changing the way we think about things.. success. Money.

Of course, if you don't have a dream to begin with (no goal) it's hard to stay focused, and take the actions that are required to manifest the greatness we want.

I think this book helps people understand that ALL the steps are important. Especially the steps that are scary, or the steps we pass over.

Staying focused is hard when one is getting bombarded by all kinds of offers, some from experts, some from would be experts. Its a mine field of risks out there in IM land. Learning all you can from the real experts before you jump can make the landing softer. Step by step, bit by bit, you crawl, walk, run and then jump. Just as Brett describes

Dreams are only as good as the means to fulfill them.

      Norma,

I think it is quite sad that you have been made to validate your reasons for taking the time to share this link with us. I am not having a dig at anyone on this thread - I know that there are a lot of spammers on this forum that will try anything to get a sale and for that reason people are wary of links (and in most cases they are justified).

I totally agree that it is extremely rare to find someone willing to give something away for free. As you say there is usually a catch even if it is just an opt in.

For those of you who are interested, another example would be the War Room - there are some amazing people giving away great stuff in there - As Andy says a lot of warriors do this.

Sorry I am rambling now but I wanted to say thank you Norma and please never feel that you should apologise or justify helping out your fellow warriors. I am very grateful for you posting this as I am having one of those days where I was thinking an office job was becoming very attractive!!!

Interesting, thanks. Read it, I actually thought it was common knowledge that basically you try, test, and if it doesn't work you revise it again until it does. As for the knowledge gap, I hadn't thought of it quite the way he put it, but was aware of that as well. However, it was an interesting read.

That's not really the reason for the explanation, Rachel. I thank you for your defense of the situation but someone PM'd me about a link that did not work and how they felt taken down by something or other they did not get. All too often people want to just get involved in IM and go to the top overnight. Occasionally it works out. In 95% of the cases, according to well published figures, it does not.
Yes, but that has a lot do with the big promises they get when entering this business.
"Let me show you how i made xxxx,xx in only 2 hours" Then you got caught, work your ass like crazy and got maybe $100 from it, and don't get it what is wrong with you. This is the point where most people quit, since no product can stand up to there expectations.
Those who understand what it takes keep trying and eventually make it.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, the faster people get this point, the faster will escape from the "make money fast" rat race and start to look for a long term method.

That is so true. You can't get rich overnight in an enterprise where you know nothing about it. Its like going into a sporting arena and expecting to be captain of the team before you have even studied the rules or learned the game.

Many are also put off by associates or family who deride their efforts. Its all a part of toughening up and moving forward with a single goal in mind. Don't quite because you are pushed to the end of the line or someone kicks you in the backside. Just get on with it.

There is another far more important reason for failure - PROCRASTINATION.

It is so easy to put off doing something today when you know you have all of tomorrow to do it. Without the pressure of a boss breathing down their necks many are inclined to just push along from day to day without making a start on the main things required for success.

Its only when the dogs are biting or hunger attacks and a family is starving because the bread winner is out of a job that many get up and decide that now is the time to make that start. It is only then that they also decide to try to figure it all out. But with panic as the motivator they might as well stop right there. No one can absorb all they need to know when the nerves are jumbled and the emotions are in a heap.

How many posts do we see here with the 'help' attached because someone is desperate for money? It all tells the real story. Get up today and do something right now to change your life if you are in a procrastinating situation.

      Norma,

"Get up today and do something right now to change your life if you are in a procrastinating situation."

I think this is a great example of the advice most new IM'ers here receive from ebooks, ect. Often times, they buy a thing, then are told "What" to do, but not how to go about doing it.

(I'm not telling you that you're wrong for making that statement because I think you've done a good job going into detail beforehand)

I'd like to hear your take on what that "something" is.

Procrastination is standing above the pool and thinking of all kinds of reasons not to jump in. Far from being a procrastinator my mind is usually a jump ahead and I am in the pool before even getting my feet wet. Sometimes I make a mistake and have to get out again but usually it works out. if I make a mistake I try to find out why and avoid doing it again.

Getting advice on what to do but without the instructions on how to do it is as painful as dipping your toe into boiling water. Its made worse if you have paid a heap for the advice.

So, what I meant by the statement above is to make the effort to find out what it is that is stopping you from taking the first steps. Don't forget I had to start at the beginning in IM as well but when that happened it was at a time when 'experts' were offering not only the way to do things, such as how to build a web site, but everything that goes on in between. They were pioneers and mostly we were discovering many things together. Of course that was all in the last century.

So many IM's now are young and free of inhibitions and they have all the tools required to just do it. Many have training in Internet programing graphics and so on, and are well ahead of the pack but that should not stop anyone else from coming up to their level. You just have to put in more effort. Take some courses, such as those run in here by warriors, and search the net for better quality input.

It makes me sick to read of people who copy other peoples sites and then blogs, etc. to make a quid. That's not IMing. That's using a crutch to get around and then brag about it in forums like this. It sets a very poor example to the newbies.

Stop procrastinating and trying to look over the shoulders of others to copy what they are doing. Get out there and learn the ropes and follow good advice, such as that offered by Brett and others, so that you can achieve on your own. If you use a crutch you may never walk properly.

Hope this makes sense to everyone.

        God bless

Yes, I know where you are coming from but there are 2 types today. Those who know how to work and achieve and those who expect to be handed everything for nothing. Its largely because of the latter that so many are in debt over their heads, the credit cards allows them to have everything without actually paying for it.

However, my concern is to the former who want to learn, who are willing to work, but who are running in circles, spending heaps on stuff which has no credibility (and we have all seen the rubbish I am talking about), and who are getting more frustrated by the day. Then they give up.

Don't give up! There is a way forward and you can progress without spending any more money or time on useless e-books and tools that are non productive. Pick out the people who know what they are talking about, who offer sincere help and encouragement and have proven themselves honest.

      Hi Norma,

It's great that you're sharing your thoughts here to encourage people - thanks for that.

One thing I would say is that you cannot get someone elses results purely by trying to copy what they seem to be doing.

Most people would never be able to copy my results by watching what they can see of what I do.

The biggest reason I get results is because of WHY I'm doing things, and the relationships involved are more important to me than the money which comes from them - so someone looking to try and make money and just seeing the symptoms of what I do would have no clue about what's really making things work and could never reproduce things accurately.

It's easy when you take a superficial view of someones apparent business and say "they're offering a product in exchange for an email address and seem to only be using PPC to drive their traffic - I can copy that", but what you won't see is all of the work that went in to getting the product right, the PPC campaign right, the back-end process right, the launch and promotion right, and WHY they bothered in the first place, or what part of their strategy this is.

For most people making good money, there are several parts to their business and their revenue is from multiple sources and much of it is residual.

If you just saw one piece of the puzzle you could copy it until the cows come home and not get their results.

I have one membership site that nets $20k a month - almost all of the members come from offline marketing (and not what you would probably think). You could see that site and think you can beat it in the search engines, do a better PPC campaign and all the normal online stuff - but still fail at making any decent money because you're still not accessing the market where they are (offline), and you'd never know where or how I was getting the members from anything you could see online. It would all look like type-in traffic.

So, while I really believe in model the success of others and learning from those that have been down the road you're on, just watching people and trying to copy them has huge pitfalls.

      Andy

Thank you for sharing this insight into your business Andy. I congratulate you on your success. You are so right about all the work that goes on behind the scenes which is why I get upset when someone says they copy from others and are making it online.

Unfortunately I don't have much time for forums. It must be providence that I landed on your thread when I decided to treat myself to a read at the WF. I'm definitely going to get on Brett's list and see what he's up to.

I had already figured out some of what he said for myself; especially the part about very experienced IM'ers not being much help to newbies. Since I'm what you might call an "intermediate newbie," I hadn't completely wrapped my head around it. I came up with a name for it, though - "familiarity blindness."

I stopped paying attention to the "gurus" some time ago and started looking for those who are or recently have been fighting in the trenches so to speak. It helped me a lot.

Personally, I think some (but not all) of the "gurus" give it an honest try even though they often fail. Nobody can be good at everything. Being an effective teacher requires inborn talent and a few years of training.

Well done, but stick around because there are heaps of great things in here. You see what giving something for free has done for Brett just by the responses in this thread. I say again I have absolutely no connection with him and receive nothing for putting up this link, except for the pleasure and help certain warriors are getting from the book.

In response to your comment on 'familiarity blindness' thee are other things going on as well The problem with many (not all) so called 'gurus' is that they are usually those who make heaps on the net by roping people in with all kinds of promises and free offers for which you end up paying heaps but cannot figure out how to implement.

My personal experience is that you will do far better going down the track you mention than pushing the barrel after some g-horse that may or may not shed some of his digested goods into it.

This is such intensly valuable information. I can clearly recall when I began and how hard it was in the begining learning all that I have.

Recently I thought to myself, Internet marketing is darn easy. Then it occured to me that its only easy now that I have amassed so much infomation.

Recently Ewen Chen wrote a book on how he made millions on the internet and I thought to myself people will buy it but they wont be instant millionares. There is some learning that needs to happen.

Its not pointless, but it just takes a bit of time.

I would recommend that people take lots of notes and tackle one thing at a time and remain focus.

Its a pleasure to share and a greater pleasure to give. The winner is Brett, the giver and the one making the most sense of how to interpret the overflow of information we receive daily. If you haven't got this report do so before the thread disappears into the bowels of the WF.

Why the anti-business sentiment in a business forum? The purpose of a business is making money, but you say that like it is a bad thing.

Chris, in my opinion to be solely focused on money is soul destroying. I am not anti-business but good business is about giving and taking.

To be able to give, to share and to appreciate the value of others is better business practices than seeing everyone as a walking prospect for your bank account. People feel what is in your brain and your heart and the warmth and care that many give in their business practices pays off a lot better than the cold bruising grab for cash that destroys the very customers one needs to survive.

That's the moral of this thread and the gift that has been given will return heaps to the giver.

      God bless
