Finding Niches/Keywords Today

Remember the days when anyone (who wanted to) could learn the art of finding cool niches and keywords, build a so-so website, apply generic SEO rules, get some backlinks (even low quality ones), and then sit back and enjoy a bit of auto-pilot income?

It's seems those days, as we knew them anyway, are rapidly becoming obsolete thanks to Google. By most accounts, the practice of throwing up quick adsense or affiliate sites, and expecting easy traffic, is pretty much over.

How will your keyword/niche research change due to the latest updates? For example, will you search even harder for low competition keywords? Will you begin to focus more on higher traffic terms and build more authoritative sites with less focus on competition? Or?

    Steve,

Anything SEO-related, regarding any Google updates (Penguin, Panda, etc.) belong in the SEO subforum. Thank you.
