Cool Amazon Trick That Can Up Your CTR By 20% and Put Thousands In Your Bank

Alright so you guys might remember a post I made about a week ago that you can find right here!

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...th-amazon.html

Well I've decided that once a week I'm going to release a little Amazon guide for the forum.

Just small tips here and there that will help you convert, increase your CTR and help your Amazon business grow. Also maybe I'll put a fat stack or two into your wallet!

Anyways here's a little trick I use to help increase my CTR

This technique is EXTREMELY effective in the Technology Niche as people in that niche LOVE to watch videos !

Pretty much what we're going to do is put a video review at the bottom of all of our review but as it will be in the form of an image and when clicked will take them to the real video review and will load your cookie onto their computer.

Start off by finding a video review of the product you're promoting (not all products will have a video review)

First Click Here

Then when you find the video you'd like to use for your review right click on the video and click copy link address

After that paste the address into your browser

It will Look a little something like this

Now on this page all there is is the one video review you've selected! So what you'll want to do first is take a screenshot of the page and crop it so all you can see is the video player. Save this because soon you'll be embedding it onto your website

You'll also want to click link to this page in the top left

When you've clicked that you'll want to take out your affiliate hyperlink which will look like this

Now that we have all of this it's time to embed the image onto our website with our affiliate hyperlink'

The Code Should Look like this

Code:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/review/R1D0S4N0JRSATF/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;videoPreplay=1&amp;tag=howtobecome05-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957"><img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/muihw5.png" alt="Kindle Touch Review" border="0" /></a>
Then when embedded on your website should look like this

So from now on whenever somebody clicks on the video review it really will take them to the REAL video review but will also load your cookie onto their browser!

HERE'S A LIVE EXAMPLE TO SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT IT SHOULD BE LIKE

Well for one I was tired of waiting so long for my money... Every payment took like two months

But I actually got into some bigger things with a partner of mine and it takes up a lot of my time so I don't really have time to keep up with my Amazon sites any longer

Neat little tip here, way to think out of the box.

I have been trying to figure out a way to incorporate video reviews into my amazon sites for months now and the best I came up with was linking to the review video

Yeah, I thought he was sharing good stuff, but I considered the possibility when I saw his post, that if had clicked his link, I could have probably caught his cookie.

Maybe that was not the specific reason for the post, but hey, if he catches some additional cookies, I could see some folks doing that.

I read all of the experts in the thread, and no one is too concerned about this possibility.

However, let me explain why I think it will be a problem:

Amazon claims ownership of all testimonials on their site. Taking a screenshot of a video testimonial of a video on Amazon might cross the line of violating Amazon's TOS regarding who owns the testimonials on the Amazon website.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. If you login to your Amazon associates account and go to a page that has a video review, the gray bar at the top will let you make a link to that page BUT it doesn't have an option to show a picture like it does with most of the products.

Maybe it would be safer to make some sort of "generic" video image and then include text below that tells people to click for the video review on Amazon. The clearly allow you to link directly to the page but I agree with Bill that the use of the image of the video might not be cool with them.

P.S. I really don't care about the OP dropping a cookie, so what? He made a post with a cool idea, who cares if he gets a commission if you buy something over there? It won't cost you anything and, since you can't use your own cookie, what's the big deal?

I HIGHLY doubt this is the case, especially considering he said that he no longer deals with Amazon. If it was the case though, big deal? He gave you a good trick to use to make yourself money, and if you were to purchase something from amazon in the next 24 hours, you cant get commission off of your own purchases anyway, so why not reward this guy for the great trick he shared with you?

Well for one, you obviously give him more credit than maybe he should get.

Here is the URL behind his image on the page he links:

          Code:
          http://www.amazon.com/review/R1D0S4N0JRSATF/?_encoding=UTF8&videoPreplay=1
          &tag=howtobecome05-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

When I click "Link To This Page" in Amazon, my Amazon Affiliate ID appears behind the "tag=" in the URL string -- highlighted in blue for your pleasure with his Affiliate ID in red.

You "highly doubt" that he would do that, but he did do that. :p

Personally, I don't care that he did it... I was simply making an observation that he could have possibly done it, and I was right in my assumption.

If you are going to correct me, please make sure the facts are on your side.

The fact that he did it really is no big deal to me.

Yes, I do think it is a good tip that he shared -- it is one that I have already shared with others...

But while you are suggesting that I should probably consider clicking his link and buying something from Amazon to reward him for the great tip he shared, did you also buy something from Amazon to reward him?

Or, are you thinking that it is the least I can go to recompense myself for pointing out the thing that was obvious to Fluffy and myself?

I know how to look at the URL and tell if its an affiliate link or not, my point is that he obviously states the URL above the pic also, showing his affiliate is in it. IMO he is showing us how it is supposed to function.

As far as buying stuff with his cookie goes. I did not mean that you must buy something to thank him. My point was, so what if you clicked his link and have his cookie? If you happen to buy something from amazon within the 24 hours that you do have his cookie, its not like you can use your own and take your own commission anyway. So what does it hurt to allow him to get the commission for your purchase if you do happen to buy something from Amazon? He did give you a really cool tip on how you can make extra sales yourself threw Amazon, so IMO I dont see the big deal with allowing him to have the sales commission.

Thats all I was trying to say...

I know you did, and you are missing the bigger picture.

In context, one member said, "It's nice to see members like you contribute selflessly!"

And Fluffy responded saying that you were probably including an affiliate link, so saying you did it "Selflessly seems a bit much."

I simply agreed with Fluffy that describing your post as "giving Selflessly" seems a bit over the top.

You gained two advantages by posting the thread:

              1. A cookies link that people might click; and
              2. Your personal branding as an Amazon expert.

Since you are gaining two potential advantages, would "Selflessly" really be a good description?

We are not taking away from your original post. There is nothing wrong with what YOU did -- taking either advantage that you gained from this thread.

Mine and Fluffy's participation in this thread revolved around the other poster's use of the word "Selflessly" to describe your contribution to the forum.

And then someone else said that you were not linking to a page that had an affiliate link on it. So, I showed that you were.

We are not taking issue with you or what you have done, but with how people responded to your post, period.

Not sure bout that - If he is no longer doing Amazon as he says in the OP, the cookie won't be to his advantage, and neither will the branding, unless of course he's planning on an Amazon WSO in the near future...

it remains to be seen if this complies with the tos. Has anyone contacted Amazon to get confirmation on it?
Seems like that wouldn't be a problem, as you are just linking to the video on their site. I think what they frown upon is putting their content on your site (ie: embedding video that plays on your own site, or copying testimonials and pasting them into your site). Just linking to a video online is pretty much something anyone can do, even if they're not affiliated with the site in question.

Of course, their TOS doesn't have to make sense, so I could be totally wrong...

Nice Tip I use videos on many of my sites but not quite the same way so great tip THANKS.

Not sure why you would give up money making Amazon sites even if you had to wait 2 months for your money because as you know its pretty residual once you get going and that leaves plenty of time for other revenue opportunities that may produce faster revenue.

Also there is now a way for non US Amazon Affiliates and other affiliates networks to receive instant Amazon payments via a new payment service which gives you a US Bank account to receive affiliate payments this has cut 8 weeks waiting time off the payments for me and NO MORE CHECKS which is great.

Any non US Amazon affiliates can read about it on this post

      It's not that I don't love Amazon I do!

I just don't have enough time to work on it anymore.

All my time goes into my clients and programs I'm creating with partners.

But I do have five minutes a day to help others succeed where I left off!

That is a great tip, very clever.

My initial thought was that this might in some way be against their affiliate TOS, but thinking about it, there is really nothing sneaky about it. You're visitors see an image of a video preview, they click and go directly to the Amazon website to the exact video preview they were expecting to see.

It's a brilliant tip, thanks for sharing.

When I first started with Amazon there was a guy in the same niche as me that had a massive photo the size of the whole page and it looked like a complete web page and the real text only appeared below the fold.

He was using this technique but in a non ethical way because no matter where you clicked above the fold you were transported to Amazon.

You had to click though as he had a video with sexy cheerleaders and the video start button LOL so instead of seeing dancing cheerleaders you ended up on Amazon.

This is a twist on that but much more ethical in my opinion.

I believe it's only against the TOS if you're cloaking the link

For example you use pretty link to make the link appear as

      http://www.kindletouchreview.com/supercoolvideoreview

which then takes you to amazon

Amazon has no problem with cloaked links, I personally contacted them as asked them because there was so much misinformation posted about this very topic I contacted them and asked them specifically about Pretty links and bit.ly.

Their answer was very clear, they have no problem with cloaking links using these services on your site.

As long as you have your disclaimer on your site advising people that links on your site will click through to amazon all should be fine.

They have a specific problem when people are automatically being forwarded to Amazon without them taking a specific action or clicking on a link.

            Sure I understand

It was made clear on my correspondance that you have to make it clear using the required disclosure agreement which i mentioned above and this should clearly state that links on the site, link through to Amazon.com which would cover your point made above and allow you to comply with that TOS.

I don't know Gaz. The TOS says this. "For example, you must include your Associates ID or "tag" (appearing as XXXXX-20, or such other format as we may designate) as a parameter in the URL of each link you place on your site to the Amazon Site. In addition, you must not use a link shortening service in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site."

Does a shortened link or cloaked link with a disclaimer (that in most cases no one pays attention to) make it clear you are linking to Amazon?

Its not cookie stuffing so you are ok, like I said just make sure you have your Amazon disclaimer in place advising visitors that you are an Amazon affilaite and they should expect that any links on the site click thru to Amazon

    Thanks for the tip.

Im wondering though, isn't it better to embed a proper video on your site so your bounce rate is lower because people stay on your site for longer?

Also, are you 100% sure this complies with the tos? I know Amazon allow affiliates to use product images, but showing a screenshot of a consumer video is a bit like using consumer images and i've heard they cannot be used.

    Excellent tip.

I believe that since you are presenting an image of a video, then bringing the user to the video, its not cookie stuffing.

This reminds me of a WSO that was released a couple months back that was closed due to its unethical'ness. Basically it was instructing you to post an image of your video review for the wso in the wso thread, that would take the user to the page with the video while placing the affiliate's cookie.

But I digress, great tips, I'm still working on the best way to implement the first one.

    Thanks again!

I hope its acceptable to take quotes out of the reviews... Ive been using 2-3 sentences out of reviews for each product to show how the customers feel about the products in my reviews. I dont think thats against the ToS is it?

You're not allowed to do that by copy and paste, you need to use the API to quote customer reviews I think.

I was wondering if you would get banned from Amazon for doing this? Also, if you just get sales on other things people are buying and not what you are advertising will Amazon allow that? For example, I have a tech site advertising a Ipad. People get my cookie and within the day buy accessories for the Ipad.

I have done this and gotten credit for 3 sales but would like to know if I can continue doing this without being banned?

Nice trick, thanks for sharing it.

The thing I don't like though is building sites based on tricks. Now that this is out there, it's going to be copied by a lot of people. The problem is amazon will notice a lot of affiliates linking to videos directly with their affiliate links and I bet they classify that as indirect cookie stuffing in the future. I also bet they block this real quick once they notice. This is based on their past actions.

My point being, tricks have short lifespans. If you're doing SEO to get traffic to your Amazon sites, I would not base it on tricks and certainly would not risk my account for some quick dollars.

I'm not bashing the OP at all. I just hope that people who are going to jump all over this are prepared and willing to accept any future consequences. (IF they even happen).

I've read about your success with Amazon. I have a quick question, I found a new product that releases soon and the productname.com is available. Would it be a bad move to make my amazon review site using this domain name? What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Nothing sad going on here! I'm not trying to be rude but I feel like clicking his link that much more now. Haters only build the perception of value when they are a minority in judgement.

My guess is that Amazon could not like it or maybe It is already against the TOS, although I'm not sure as to confirm it

    Just my opinion

This is very cool and I will start implementing it right away. There is such a huge volume of products to promote on Amazon and if you're struggling with narrowing down a method on which products to pick for promotion, this is a great way to narrow down the list of what to go after.
