HTTP 500 internal server error

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi

I have tried running some checks on my website because it isnt recognised by google (I dont think it has ever been recognised) and open site explorer, validator W3 etc... keep telling me that my main page has a HTTP 500 internal server error and so they are unable to check it. My web hosting provider says that their servers are working fine. What could be the cause of this?

Seth - this is often a file permissions problem. If you are on a webhosting server which uses cpanel, you'll get that if the file permissions are set too loose. If you have a way to chmod the files, chmod the index file to 6-4-4 and see if that works.

by the way, is it only one page on your site or is it the whole site?

If it's the whole site, make sure your public_html folder is set to less than 7-5-0

Your webhost could be a bit more helpful here than they are letting on....

Also, it might be a .htaccess problem. Try renaming the .htaccess file to .htaccess.out and see if that fixes it. If so, you'll know what to fix.
