Someone tell me there is a way to change back from this stupid editor they made go live.

1) Every email wants to come out centered in the middle of the email. Looks completely stupid.

2) Why do I want templates with images when so many email clients don't show them unless someone clicks a button to allow it. For example Thunderbird with it's warnings on how the images could be harmful do you want to allow it. Yeah that is exactly what I want subscribers to see. { { face palm } }

But I did make it so that I didn't have to use a template... but everything still comes out centered in the email once it is delivered.

I got an idea... how about you work on delivery rate rather then a stupid template system for emails.

Does anyone know how to actually get the emails to show up left like normal emails do? Not centered like this stupid interface is making them.

EDIT: Sorry, haven't been to bed for awhile and scheduling an email, and pretty irritated.

Hey man, I was pounding my head against the desk too last night while trying to send an email to my list.

I was using plain text and didn't have a problem with it centering. My problem was it kept saying "This email cannot be saved, an error has occurred." At one point, the editor completely disappeared and said, "The editor is down for maintenance."

I really wish they would just keep it the way it was. It worked fine. Why make it harder than it needs to be?

    Hi Don,

I can't guarantee that this will work, but I found out that the current follow up editor is linked at:

    http://www.aweber.com/users/messages/followups/edit/

While the old follow up editor is linked at:

    http://www.aweber.com/users/followups/add

    The new broadcast editor:

    http://www.aweber.com/users/messages/broadcasts/edit/

    The old broadcast editor:

    http://www.aweber.com/users/broadcasts/add

I found these links in AWeber, but have not clicked on them to verify where they go.

    Good luck though!

    All the best,
    Michael

I was at my Aweber account yesterday. They haven't forced me to change yet. Not looking forward to it from these accounts of the interface.

Man I didn't see that ugggg...

I remembered seeing them begging you to try the new interface.
But since I never hit yes to it, I figured they forced me lol.

At the bottom of the "Create A New Follow Up Message" or "Create A New Broadcast Message", you can access the old editor. Even I went crazy trying to figure it out. I really don't know why the sudden layout change :O

I wouldn't mind the change if it took less time to do your follow ups.

Now, they have done this, it takes ages just to write just one follow up.

I'm going to get response if they don't change it back.

There is no link on my account to use old settings, so they better hurry....

This drove me crazy as well. Just wanted to send out a simple broadcast. Ended up just writing it in plain text rather than even bothering with all the extra stuff they put in there. Glad to know now that there is a button you can click to go back to the old format.

Michael, thanks a lot for the links.

I signed up for a new account with them, didn't find that "Looking for the previous follow up editor?" link everyone talked about, so I submitted a help ticket.

They kindly responded that for new accounts, this feature is not available at all, and it's (and I quote): "a legacy feature for old accounts". He also added something like: "Moving forward, all new Aweber accounts will not have the ability to use both editors, just the new one.".

I wonder what "moving forward" means to them...and why is it that hard to offer the old editor to new accounts, since it's still available for the old ones.

Anyway, thanks again Michael, you totally saved me. (GetResponse almost had me as a new customer if it wasn't for you.)

It will still center the email (I think), but just use one paragraph box and write out your email in there like normal. That's what I've been doing and it makes it easy. You don't have to add in all kinds of stuff.

Today I did try the headline thingie though, and I do like that, but it's not necessary.

I love Aweber, but this new editor is truly bad news. If I am forced to use it, I will endure the hassle of switching services.

I am not one of those people who reflexively resists change, by the way. But this forces me to send commercial-looking email that will alienate my audience. And, sorry, saying that my only alternative is to send a text-only email does not cut it. Here’s what I mean . . .

Smart marketers know that nothing converts better than emails that look like plain text emails but also have HTML capability for being able to track open rates and also do small things like boldface and italicize, etc.

That’s because anything with a template looks like something commercialized or salesy, like a four-color postcard you get in your regular mail that you immediately recognize as junk mail.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this new editor does not allow me to create an email without a template. Even if I create an email and eliminate all the template-y options, it CENTERS all the text and my end-user gets that commercialized template feeling nonetheless.

Yes, I could use the plain text version, but then I could not track the open rate and I could not do things to the font like boldface it, etc.

This is a classic case of fixing something that wasn’t broken. It’s the tech version of “New Coke.”

I played around with it for over an hour before I figured it out. Go into the editor and double click on what ever the hell that image is in there right below the title. A little red close arrow will show up on the right hand side. Click that to kill what ever it is they are calling it.

Now grab the "paragraph" image from the menu and drag it down into the space where that original image was. Double click on it and you can now edit it. Create your email like normal and you're good to go.

They definitely should have at least had some sort of video or something though. I almost had to buy a new keyboard

Same exact problem. I tried blanking the template, adding the paragraph block and putting in my content. But it always centers the email. Amazing that a company whose entire business is email wouldn't either notice that it's doing this or notice that people are having a hard time with it and tell us how to fix it. It's a pretty important issue.

Strange, it doesn't center it for me. I delete everything from the paragraph first, then start writing what ever I want in there and it comes out like it normally does.

By "centering your email" are you saying that it takes everything and "centers" it instead of being flush with the left side of the screen?

Yes, exactly. You open up your email and there's a huge wide gutter of white space on either side of your message. It's just a narrow column of text centered down the middle.

Oh, and I don't think anyone else has mentioned this . . . but at least from what I can tell the default font is smaller, too.

It does that for me too...centers it.
Unless they changed it within the last day or so,
even deleting everything and using the paragraph,
            still centered it for me.

Nope you're not alone. Thankfully I was able to use the links posted earlier in the thread to go to the old editor and it worked perfectly. Also left a comment on the AWeber blog post asking them to simply let us continue to have the option to use the old editor still.

After reading through this thread and finding more people who felt like I did about the new editor, I emailed aWeber and suggested that they take a look at the thread here.

In short order I received a response as well as permission to post the response on the forum here. They do ask that if you have issues/comments, to please contact them and let them know.

        Here is the response:

AWeber - Jordan Premick, Jun 07 09:10 am (EDT):
        Hello Jackie,
Thank you for brining that up and most of the concerns have or are being
        addressed:
        -Creating a plain text template
That has been updated and is the first available template when you review
        the templates section.
-Adjusting the alignment of the content
This is something that we are aware of and are working on to update with
the editor. I don't have an ETA on when that will be updated but it is
        something we are looking into.
The best and most efficient way for us to improve upon it is to hear from our
customers directly. The new platform is going to be the editor moving forward
as it allows customers to create a professional looking newsletter without having
to know HTML. It was developed off of customer feedback based on limitations
        of our old editor.
If you have any ideas on how we can improve upon the editor, please let us know
from our Contact Us page or just email us at help@aweber.com.
Thank you again and I look forward to hearing from you!

    Guys,

Make sure and write AWeber about this so they know a lot of us are upset about it. All we want is the ability to make the emails look the same in the new editor as we did in the old one - or to just allow us to keep using the old one.

Lol, I am glad I am not alone in my frustration (misery loves company). I looked around forever trying to find a way to use the old editor. I ended up settling on a professional, clean looking template, but I agree. It's not a good change IMO. The template looks fine for a newsletter, but many of us don't send "newsletters" to our subscribers every day. Idk what I will end up doing about this...

To overcome the issue, I just created a new template, added the required content, and saved. This will save a standard html template that is left aligned.

    Hope that helps.

Agree - pretty horrible, took me an hour to write one broadcast, had to settle for text only as the html always centered my text and it looked like hell. Happy to see there is an alternative of using the old editor, didn't see that at the time.

It looks like AWeber addressed this now. I haven't tried it yet but got this in the email today:

    "Introducing the Plain HTML Template

If you're interested in creating plain messages without frills, we have the perfect template for you! We recently added a plain template to the new message editor so you can quickly create HTML emails that mimic plain text with drag-and-drop ease.

Read the Knowledge Base article to learn more about creating plain messages for your campaign."

There is a template called "Plain". By default it's set to center aligned. Click the little icon underneath the main template -- usually used for selecting color options -- and you can switch to left-aligned.

      p.s. hate the new editor.
