Do You Think The 4 Hour Work Week Is Possible?

I'm curious about this as I know my opinion, but am interested to see what others think.

Yes. I've actually done it with a real-world business before. In fact, I had automated my business to the point where it was more like a 1 hour work week...I just had to be there long enough to double-check the sales figures, process payroll, and go to the bank.

Is there some place where I can read more about how you did this? I already read the book by Tim Ferriss, though I have not been able to make it work for myself. It still seems I working all the time and never quite catching up...

No...I did it before The 4 Hour Work Week was published. I didn't even do it on purpose honestly...I was dating a girl and I wanted to spend more time with her, so I hired in a better staff, taught them as much as I could, and worked my way out of my store over a period of a month or two. After 4-6 weeks of not working, I got really bored and went back to work again. That, and the girl was spending all of my money, so I couldn't do anything but stay home anyways.

Nope. I got rid of her like a bad rash, but not before she ran my biz into the ground. I'm strongly considering writing a Kindle book about her and changing the names to protect the guilty...or however that saying goes. I guarantee that it'd hit #1 the first week I released it.

I suppose it is possible if you deal with affiliate marketing only... After all, you don't have to do anything but market products.

But I think if you want to make a full-time income, you'll probably need a few more hours than that.

Are you joking? Do you know what it takes to promote a product?

In any case, yes, it's possible BUT you won't get there by working four hours a week...

        This.

You can certainly do it with appropriate processes in place however I'd not do it ever. Most of my work involves coding and I love making things from scratch. So, nope, even if I could, I won't do it.

But yeah, I'd say it is possible.

I met Tim Ferris the author at a seminar. He spends 80 hours per week doing TV shows, seminars, webinars, teleseminars, and sitting in airports promoting the 4 Hour Work Week.

      Think that answers your question?

BTW, he came up with the Title 4 hour work week by testing the title in adwords. He tested all hours starting from 1 to 40 and 4 work best.

Yes, it's very possible as everything can be outsourced, employees can be hired, and managers can be hired to over see daily operations.

I know plenty of business owners who have chosen not to be engaged in their portfolio of businesses and only spend a few hours a week, if that, checking over their enterprises.

Though to my way of thinking, I'm an entrepreneur, not just a business owner and I like to be in the mix of things and I'm addicted to product creation and measuring consumer behavior, so the 4 hour work week isn't something that interests me.

i love IM and im not saying i like working 10 hours a day but at the same time 4 hours a week is just obsurd

i would say a good balance would be 2 hours a day around 10 hours a week at a minimum

but 4 hours a week is just not going to happen in most cases unless you really dont want anything to do with your business

I only think it's possible if you an established team of employees (with a manager overseeing them). You spend your 4 hours managing the manager and the health of the business.

Essentially your 4 hours are leveraged into tens of hundreds of hours by employing others.

    1. Simply, hire VAs.
    2. Decide to pay SEO experts monthly for your work.
    3. Automate a good part of your business.

Definitely possible..I'm living proof, and I only have to work about 2 hrs a week total (3- 30 minute offline seminars + 5 mins/day turning on robots), but I work about 5 because I'm totally motivated...if I outsourced seminars to family and friends I'd be down to 1 hr a week as well

Oh hell yes its possible, maybe not common but people do manage to pull it off.

My brother is one of those people. I wouldn't say he works 4 hours a week, closer to 8, but he manages to pull in over $120 grand a year. My oldest brother works at home, works a lot more than 8 hours a week (still not full time however) and he makes even more than my first brother.

This has a lot to do with why I'm so lazy minded myself. When you grow up around people who know how to make money, w/out doing a lot of work, it tends to screw with your head a lot when it comes to work ethics. Well mainly physical labor I'd say.

I can spend 16 hours a day on the computer, trying to be productive and all .. but my main issue is discipline. Like right now, I shouldn't be on this forum typing messages that are in no way going to benefit my life financially. So I will now take a break, go work on my websites, untill I get stuck on something and wind up back on the forums wasting time.

This forum DOES help me a lot like I said anytime I need help with something. But learning to get off immediately once I've found my answer is another story. Either way, I should really get back to work. =]

If you use alot of advertising the 4 hour work week is possible, especially if you're getting good results from your advertising. Advertising is instant.

You can achieve it also with free marketing, but it will take a while to see consistent sales on a daily basis, without doing much everyday. You have to promote yourself hard this way.

The key to the 4hww is building your asset (business) first. That takes time and effort. Lots of effort. Then, you automate as much as possible and outsource the rest.

The 4hww never happens without lots of much bigger work weeks ahead of it.

That's the motivation I need right there. I'm going to write it...as soon as I kept caught up on Article Writing orders. I'm 5 deep right now.

The business structure was simple. As I said, it was a real world business, specifically a retail store. I found the best salespeople that I could and then spent a lot of time training them. I quizzed them, offered monetary bonuses for certain things, made challenges for them, and ABOVE ALL ELSE I kept the job fun so they'd want to do it.

The biggest thing that I taught them, though, was to think like an entrepreneur.

I taught them to hussle. As I was doing this, I was automating my systems. I found a fantastic payroll company, went with Bank of America because of their automation (I would NEVER recommend BoA to anyone now...worst bank in the world!), I managed to find suppliers for my store that were 100% online so I could order from anywhere, and I built my point-of-sale to do what I wanted, the way I wanted.

It took me a couple of years to get it all in place, but then I just took a break for a while and enjoyed not doing anything until it got boring. I wish I had known about IM then because I could've spent my time off building an online income stream and then I'd be a guru today selling WSOs like crazy.

I work only under 8 hours a week on my IM projects [apart from time I spend on warrior forum and some research work time by time - that is more of hobby] to make very serious money. It depends on what is your main goal. Nowadays, you can literally outsource everything and if you do so, 4 hours a week is no problem! Like what JaryCu mentioned, 1 hour a week is good enough for him.

Then again, the more we work, the more we earn?

      *evil buzzer sound* nnnnnnnnnnnkkkk

Wrong answer. Listening to me was a good start, but then assuming that working more makes more money was a bad ending.

I still have a day job. By the time I go home this afternoon, I will have put in around 40 hours or so behind this desk. At home, I've put MAYBE 20 hours into my article writing service this week. Maybe.

I'm getting paid DOUBLE from my article writing service versus my "real" job.

Yeah I definitely think its possible. However, like everything it life, getting there takes time and effort.

Personally, I used some of the time management and goal setting techniques that Tim Ferries has advocated to great effect. Cutting out the clutter and useless information has also been great at freeing up my time.

My goal is to be able to free up my time, and to earn enough income to explore the things that I love to do. I view his principles as a way for me to reach that goal in the future.

Possible if you have fund to hire employee to do all the stuff for you or you can automate things but for starter, i don't think it's possible, you need hard work and countless hours to make business works like you want and then when you get bigger, you can start assign your employees to do all the works while you do nothing.

Perfectly right, do hard works on between these 4 hours after this time go for fishing and outing.. right?

Hard work is essential if you spending less much time in your work.

YES! 100%. the flip side to it is that it requires A LOT of work beforehand!
Passive income should be everyone's goal. If they choose to work more because they love it then that's fine. In the end, the only way to financially free is passive income. The amount of work required to get to that point will make most people quit.
Get it done and reap the amazing benefits!

Oh yes, it's very possible. I don't always manage to have a four hour work week, but there are times when I'm so organized and prepared that it happens almost like magic.

When my clients are clear on their expectations and I am clear on what I can provide things get done so much faster. It's the clarity and organization that makes it happen for me.

Possible? Yes...easy or simple..naaaaa. The business model is the key. I would say it's more of an investment strategy then it is actual work. I'd bet there a few ways to go about it. The thing is, many people want to merge their passion with their work, which would actually make only 4 hours a week a bad thing.

I love this quote I think it was by Dean Hunt...(I'm also *******izing it)

"Most on-line marketers work 18 hours a day so they can make money while they sleep..."

If you love IM enough to do what it takes to decrease your work week to four hours I would imagine that you really enjoy it and like working. I do

I believe its possible - Tim's book has some great quotes in - plus it can make you look out side the box.

I've spoken to few successful entrepreneurs in my time, most come up with the ideas and then find others who are better to run the business better than themselves. Brandson is very public about this, "the key is setting it all up, then finding someone who is better than you to run it all so you can be off onto the next project".

Being a people person is key here - going back to to Brandson - i believe its good that you see a CEO so public behind his brand.

Tim took a very good niche and built - adding to this the book release then prompted him to see to a consortium - extra bonus!

Of course it is possible. Often it just requires a lot of time spent upfront to set the systems and/or personnel to take care of your business.

Perhaps, but who cares as long as you enjoy what you are doing, you are driven by a mission and are excited to get up every morning.

1 hour working at something you hate or bores you to tears is so much tougher on you than working hard at something you love.

As far as a title goes - awesome! It conveys a transformation that people stuck in dead-end jobs or running businesses inefficiently absolutely want to achieve - even in an exadurated sense. Title means everything when it comes to selling books or any infoproduct.

I suppose anything is possible if you figure out away to automate everything. It depends on what type of work you're doing too, and how much of it you feel comfortable automating or outsourcing.

Yes it is possible. I barely spend much time in my business anymore because of my 2 kids. Of course, if I am working on a project, I will put in extra hours.

I guess building multiple streams of passive income is the key... you could then just spend 4 hours a week overseeing things and tweaking. Until the next Google update when you would need to start over!

Absolutely not...unless you have already made tons of money and then you just outsource everything. For most people reading this thread, their work week's need to be more like 60-80+ hours.

I know that Tim Feriss works a heck of a lot more than 4 hours each week also.

Yea, with the right system in place, and a great outsourcing team.

Your outsourceing team would be the key. We are all taught
to get our business down to steps we can give to our in-
      house or over sea's team..

I think for most of us we wouldn't know what to do with the
rest of our day. I think we would be bored out of our minds.

Yes, the 4 hour work week is possible. After you have a marketing system in place that produces the desired results, you can scale it up and automate as much of it as possible.

I agree 1 hour work week is possible. You need to put work in to increase your income but to maintain it these days doesn't take any effort. People talk about Tim Ferris working 80 hour weeks, thats because he still has things to accomplish, does anyone doubt that from the position he is in now he couldn't just rest on his laurels and continue to live comfortably for the rest of his life.

Some people are addicted to their work, some people never think they have enough money, some people aren't smart enough to earn a passive income and some people are so boring that even if they had all the time in the world they wouldn't know what to do with it. For everyone else passive income is the way forward

I am currently on the tried and tested 112 hour work week as I try to build my business pretty much from ground up with little money on my own!

But boy am I gonna enjoy it when I get there!

I am actually a professional Physical Therapist and I intend, when my online income permits, to give my therapy service away for free. Marketing it is a total pain so I always wanted to just treat people and get them back on the path to wellness without having to worry about getting money out of them.

Currently there just aren't enough hours but my motivation is high and I barely notice the effort! 23:43 pm and I am processing some digital sounds, editing and checking audio tracks for my upcoming products and loving it

Yeah probably. At the moment, if I want to make a LOT of money, I need to work at least 4 hours a day 5 days of the week. So that's where I am. If I work 4 hours a week, I get SOME cash, but surely not enough to have as much fun as I rightfully should on weekends
