How do you split test?

I am new to display advertising and want to test several versions of a display ad on Google. Does anyone have any suggestions on software products they use to do this?

    most o the tracking software have split testing availablebut if not join some free sites with mail credits and send two different emails or squeeze pages for the same offer and see what works better

    Hmm...

    So why don't you split test the ads by analyzing your data, and then split test the landing page by sending traffic with the best one.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks for your helpfulness. I may not have been clear in my question - so let me clarify. What I am trying to do is test both text and image ads in Google's contextual network. I get that I can have 2 or 3 version of my ad to test CTR.

    What I don't know how to do is test the conversion rate of different landing pages. Ideally I want to test different product pricing, and with different upsells/downsells. Do you have any suggestions for this? How would you track the conversion rates?

    I use http://google.com/websiteoptimizer for all of my split tests... it's free and you can have an unlimited number of test running.
