Newbie Aid - Calling all vets!

Hey, thanks for checking out the thread. I'm completely new to the world of wealth via internet and was hoping for some advice.

I've done a bit of research, even read some books, but I'm still lost as to where to start and have no personal accounts to go off of.

As far as where to start, I've never used any CMS, but I'm leaning towards the idea of trying to delve into Drupal and learn as I go. When I say I don't know where to start, I mean it; hosting, domains, site-building, what do I do first?

My next inquiry is which niche is best in your opinion? I know I'm new but that doesn't mean I want to start easy, even if it takes a while to find success, I'd rather start in something difficult and work my way there if it's got more potential than something else. This includes: CPA, PPC, PPV, CPM, CPL, media, WSOs, etc. I've read in multiple places that it's best to focus in one area and stick to it, so my question is where's the real opportunity?

Thanks again.

Well you could buy some courses that would teach you all this stuff, but I would actually recommend that you spend sometime on the forum using the search function. You can get some great ideas and direction that way.

Go to the search box and start typing in things like "finding a niche", "keyword research", how to build a website", "domain hosting", etc.

You find lots of very detailed info that should help you get started.

    Good luck.

      Hi and welcome.

As far as CMS go, most people here use WordPress (I don't though I'm a Joomla fan although I do know WP). You can just go and open an account at wordpress.com - just to have a look around as this is not what you should use for production, this is really just to have a look around and play with it a little bit.

You'll think about web hosting at a later time, once you're clear on other subjects (like your niche and traffic generation techniques). As for the choice of your niche, most people probably have their preferences, personally I'd say: pick one you feel comfortable with. Because you'lll have to talk about it (create unique and valuable content like articles and e-books). Most of the niches and sub-niches that deal with solving a problem people have should be good to make money off them.

      Seb.

Do you use Facebook ? Then you can make money just by inviting people to a Facebook group ! It's called the Instant Income System. How cool is that?

    Hello,

I see you asked what niche is best. To be honest, there are a ton of profitable niches you just have to decide which one you'll go into first by doing extensive research.

Next, the best thing I'd advise you to do is not over complicate things. When trying to make money in any niche, it boils down to 3 things, traffic-leads-conversions.

Step 1: Find a niche that people are spending in..

Step 2: Grab a domain from godaddy or the provider of your choice

Step 3: Get hosting from somewhere like hostgator.com

Step 4: Study a sub-category in your niche REALLY GOOD.

Step 5: Create an e-book or mini video course on that sub category.

Step 6: Create, or more rather "outsource" a squeeze page so that you can give away your e-book or video course. You'd use an auto-responder service like Aweber or GetResponse to store those leads.

Step 7: Drive traffic to your squeeze page by purchasing solo ads in your niche. Once you have enough subscribers you can then cut down on the spending by doing adswaps with people who have a similar sized list.

Step 8: With the list you build, treat them like Gold by sending them relevant information and make money by promoting affiliate offers or an upsell of your "free product"

This is real brief, but it gives you an outline on the basics.

    Hope it helped.

Everyone here has been incredibly helpful, thank you. If you wouldn't mind, could you go a little more into what you mean by a list and squeeze page? I've searched a bit, and it's obviously something fairly basic- and important, so please excuse my newbness, but I'm still not exactly certain on those terms and how to start focusing on doing this. Thanks again.

Also, even if through PMs, how well are you guys doing on this enterprise, financially?

    Dear Falcon

Good to Hear from you, I am a newbie like you. I would like to share some of my learning with you. From my limited understanding, first thing first is to Find a Profitable Niche or Market Research, even before creating website.

Please have a look at the Following Steps

    1. Find a Profitable Niche (where people are making money already )

    2. Create a Wordpress Website (Wordpress is Free and SEO Friendly)

    3. Try to Build a List ( All INCOME come from LIST)

    4. Promote Related Products to Your List

    5. Generate traffic

In addition, you need a SOLID Business Plan

Never Forget that Internet Business is Still a Business, just you dont need the Physical stuff

    So

ü Must Concentrate on Building a Solid Business Foundation that could GROW over Time.
ü Must FOCUS on ONE Business First
ü Must Develop a Simple Plan

    Wish you all the best

For hosting, HostGator is good. For domains, I use NameCheap as my registrar, but any registrar will work fine. If you end up choosing HostGator, I have several coupons listed at HostGatorHub.com.

Drupal is a more complicated CMS. I would suggest at least considering Joomla and WordPress first. They are easier to use and have larger communities (so more extensions and themes), but nothing is actually wrong with Drupal.

I'm not sure there is really a good answer to the niche question. Find something you are interested in and knowledgeable about.

Thank you guys a ton. You've made the process of getting started a whole lot easier for me. I suppose I can't expect anyone to put any method over another on here, understandable. What you've said about choosing a niche makes plenty of sense, and I'll absolutely be stalking the forums constantly, but I'm not entirely clear as to why you couldn't incorporate most of them into each other.

To put it another way, what differentiates them- why wouldn't it be best to use CPA, CPL, CPM etc. on a case by case basis? Are those considered individual niches? Wouldn't you want to use SEO, PPC, and media advertising for just about anything you're setting up?

Or when you say niche, are you only referring to the content being advertised/sold?

Hi and welcome to the IM world

I think the above suggestions are very sound and offer a step by step way forward which is very valuable. I will not produce any steps - however

You asked specifically what to focus on and what direction to take. I shall state 2 things which i think is really going to set you on the path to profitable riches

    1. Create your own information product. Once you have this there are so many opportunties with people (affilaites) driving continuios traffic to your business and also finding JV partners whether they be big or small.

    2. Work to drive people to an email list. If you build and look after your list in terms of adding value as well as promotions that can deliver long term profits again and again

Hey Falcon keep my user name in your mind anytime you need help with setting up a website. I am new to all of this too and FINALLY just got over the learning curve with wordpress. I don't understand most of the CSS programming aspect of it but I know just enough to customize sites how I want now.

In fact after struggling to learn wordpress for the last 2-3 months it feels REALLY GOOD once you're sitting in front of a quality website you designed yourself. Even though I'm not making money yet I just SEE the potential having skills like this, and that by itself is extremely motivating.

Although the first couple months were an uphill struggle, very UNmotivating. So if you need help with wordpress or anything, just shoot me a pm or I'll pm you.

      Hello fellow Central Floridian,

I've been at this for about four years now and have taken more than my share of lumps. I can't tell you everything to do, but I can give you a tip on one thing that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY in terms of the CMS that you mentioned earlier. If you're trying to build salesy type of websites, wordpress with optimizepress theme has been a huge help for me. Easyvideoplayer has helped for videos.

Also, if I could go back and do it all over, I would have built a simple squeeze page and driven traffic to it, while split testing over and over. Build your list first, especially if you're in a proven and competitive niche. You can make money as an affiliate while building your list, offsetting some expense. Then create your products, etc. and you've already got a hungry audience that trusts you (assuming you build a relationship with your list).

      Good luck!

      Sean

Keep it simple, simple, simple... there will be plenty of challenges on your way :-)

The most motivating factor is when you see results... so I'd strongly recommend that you pick a niche that is as easy as possible to start with... when you are successful with that niche you can always do it again with a more competitive niche...

It's an advantage - but not necessary by any means - if you pick niches that you are actually interested in...

Try to choose the niche which is red hot in the market and competitive. And also your interest if possible. More Competitive niche, more traffic.

First, I would get a definition of Internet Marketing....which consists of all the ways to make money online. Article marketing, affiliate marketing, forum marketing, email marketing, blogging, all are forms of internet marketing. Being a newbie, most people start with affiliate marketing and the common avenue would be to start a blog and become an authority in whatever niche you choose.

It's hard to answer what's a good niche because that changes like the tide. The trick is to place yourself where the people are. Here's one of the simplest tricks I know to picking a niche. Go to cb engine dot com and search their categories. Any category that has over 100 products to sell means its a good niche to market from. Never had to spend much time on keyword research. Just started making my free reports and squeeze pages and building my lists.

Not a definitive answer by a long shot, just what has worked for me when I started out.

I agree with the above about finding a profitable niche, but make sure it's a subject that you would like to become an expert in. You don't want to write about automotive repair when you hate cars in the first place, right? Make sure the niche you choose is something that you can be passionate about.

My advice is learn, learn, learn, learn, before you spend, spend, spend. Most people do it the other way first. That is the wrong way spend when you know where to spend you money. Find the names that come up all the time and seek them out as coaches. Then pay learn some more and then spend. That tip alone could save you thousands!!!! Welcome of all the communities you could have landed in you landed in the right one. It is a fun ride and totally possible. Stay committed, in love and you will do just fine.
Also seek out what you want to do there are many different ways to make great money.
