launching a product - do i sell the code or sell membership - which direction to go

hi guys .. over the past two years Ive been refining and testing ( and procrastinating ) a product ready for launch. Upon deciding on connecting to social media, there was a piece that failed.

Upon creating the code to support and complete my product, I realised the stand-alone potential and simplicity of the final code.

This produced a new product for me which I can now see has massive potential and many more possibilities.

My concern is that selling the code will devalue the product and decrease its life span .. but having the code as an ongoing membership site, has the possibility of crushing the server.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I know its a bit vague, but I would rather get my first one right than fall flat on my face.

Im more interested in what you warriors would do in this situation .. feedback may turn on a light bulb I didnt think of.

Also .. as you can see, I have purposely not disclosed the product.

    Hi Paul,

    Welcome to warrior forum

I will try to give my insight:
    1. Sell the code. This will not decrease its life span if your product has market. Sell the code means selling it in higher price and you can consider this as your stepping stone to build capital to another great project.
    2. Sell as membership. It will not crush the server if you buy correct server, there is server for almost anything, the problem here is can you afford it? If your membership is very profitable then investing into good server will make your business run smoothly and of course your customers will be more happy. Start from small, when the spec goes up then you can upgrade your server also depends on the needs. Don't invest in high spec server at once especially if you are low on budget, you better use the budget for marketing cost.

    Hope this helps.

Thnks for the reply JayWiz .. and the insight.
My concern with selling the code would mean it can then be duplicated ( and resold by unscruplous buyer ). The nature of the code is to place it in your webpage and my server then does the rest .. my concern there is, half a dozen clients come along that are getting 100,000 plus hits a month on each of their websites. I figure if that occured, my server would not keep up .. considering this figure would be multiplied out by the number of buyers ... gulp .. even if I limit the registrations !!

Nice way to build buzz for the launch

Jokes aside, it sounds like your code is similar to Prosper202?
