Why do we use 3rd part autoresponders when webhosts provide it

I have a hostmonster webhosting account and I see that they have a link called '' Create Autoresponders '' in the member subscribers area.

Why do we then use 3rd part autoresponders like aweber / Getresponse etc?

Not all autoresponders are created equal.

Your hosting has an autoresponder that can send an automatic reply.

Third party auto responders are sequential and can send a timed series of replies, provide opt-in verification and manage mailing lists.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

I asked the same thing a while back Rajul.

The explanation I got was, the autoresponder on hostmonster (thats who I have too)

is more like a "Hey I am on vacation this week I will catch up with your later" kind of

    autoresponder.

I think the main reason this won't work well for you as an IM autoresponder is,

there is no such things as an opt-in system with your hosting autoresponder.

You would have to monitor every email that came in and add them to the list.

Im sure there are more reasons than this someone can explain

There are two things here, autoresponder, and an opt-in list. Those applications in the cPanel only have a limited use, and you have very little control. Plus everything that Rebtl said.

The other thing most forget to mention is that hosting companies these days restrict the amount you can send out so even if you use your own autoresponder send more than 300 an hours and you will probably get an email or your site suspended for a while.

Most people want to increase their deliverability without going through the hassle of:

    1) ensuring reverse DNS is set on your domain/IP
    2) setting SPF record
    3) enabling domain keys
    4) filling out a variety of 'feedback loop' & whitelisting forms at the major ISPs
    5) complaints directly at their host from the occasional nut case
    6) not having to be concerned about getting your domain/IP rb'ld (blackholed) and how to get out of it or changing everything over to fresh names/IPs
    7) sense of security with using someone else's box to send out from
    8) All the cool kids are using service "x, y or z"
