Giving out address and CAN-SPAM act guidelines

After I installed an autoresponder plugin in wordpress this message appears on the screen: You must set your address in the newsletter settings page. It is a mandatory requirement for conformance with CAN-SPAM act guidelines (in USA).

Should I just ignore this or what? I hate giving out personal info.

What you need to do is enter your real home address if you want to be compliant with the CAN-SPAM laws. There's not really too much else to say about this except if you do not fill it out you will be in violation of the CAN-SPAM act.

If you don't like giving your personal information then I guess that's a decision you'll have to make yourself. Either put it in or not, but at least you know what you'll be violating if you don't ...

It's no big deal really... It's not like anyone is going to come to your house or anything.

If you don't want to give your actual street address, a post office box is acceptable. Also, you can use one of those mail boxes that you rent at a mailbox store if you have any in your area.

At any rate, Mike is correct - a physical address of some sort is REQUIRED.

By giving your address, it also shows that you have nothing to hide and creates just a tad of extra trust. Just do it

I use a P.O. Box -- both for email, and also to avoid $10 privacy charge on top of domain registration. Shop around for prices, though. I found that even between different post offices there are price differences.

Also - a sneaky Tim Ferriss trick -- if you don't want to make it look like you're using a P.O. Box - use the Post Office's actually mailing address, with your box# as the suite #. Haven't tried it yet myself, but sounds quite clever.

I rent a corporate suite, which
provides a full range of services
in addition to a real physical address,
      including private suites, conference
      rooms, and even answering service.

The way it works is that I share
the suite with other virtual businesses,
and the company that runs the place
keeps our schedules and lets us know
if the conference room is available
      when we need it, etc.

      Sneaky, Trick, Clever
      ... Not exactly
words that inspire trust, are they?

The space where you are suppose to give your address in WordPress says "attached to every e-mail." I've never seen a physical address when I was on someone's newsletter. So is my address actually going to be on every e-mail if I use an autoresponder like aweber?

Are they going to verify your mailing address or can it just be a complete fake? My location of "Mount Pleasant, MI" doesn't seem like a very sexy professional location.

bathunter, the address is just not going to affect
your money very much at all. It really doesn't.

Just focus on writing fantastic headlines and
emails worth reading-- That is what is going to
    make you money.
