Amazon Affiliate and moving to North Carolina!

I currently reside in AZ, and have a business checking account in AZ. The account is in my name, with a dba in the State of Arizona. I do and will continue to pay federal and state income taxes on this income, but it's not a huge amount.

Unfortunately, we are moving to NC - which is one of the states that has discontinued using affiliates.

Questions:

1. If I continue using the AZ Bank account, with a NC address, will Amazon find out? How?

2. If I continue using the AZ Bank account with a AZ PO Box address, will Amazon find out? How?

3. I've read about slimlinks and viglinks. Any thoughts or experiences with these?

4. Any other alternatives that aren't totally illegal?

    I understand how you feel but firstly, you have got to accept the fact that Amazon is not the only way of earning income online.

    Now that you are moving from your state its time to also consider moving into other forms of business.

    I can recall vividly when the lawsuit was on and Amazon was forced to discontinue operation in some states in U.S, a lot of people affected complained bitterly here on WF and one guy made a great suggestion. I wish i can find that thread it would have been really helpful to you.

    The dude said, Yes, Amazon no longer operate in some states that does not mean you have to move, remember your business is online and more like virtual, your business can actually be moved while you operate it in your state.

    You will need a new set of IPs from your old location where amazon operates, this will give you cover and the ability to run your business outside the state where it does not operate.

    Get some competent legal advice, as trying those old tricks will only bring you a lot of grief. As a resident of North Carolina, you will be liable for collecting (or paying) state sales tax on in-state sales. In addition, when you file your state income tax, Amazon will find out, if not sooner. You may then be subject to paying back all commissions with possible fines and penalties for fraudulent representation. Consider incorporating or forming an LLC in a non-nexus state.

      Good advice from MYOB!

      Absolutely get competent LEGAL advice. Most folks here are helpful and will give their opinions, but they won't be the once with their butt in a crack if you do something not completely proper.

      Also, even though affiliates are more or less pawns in the Amazon-State issue because of stretching the nexus definition (my opinion) consider what happens if/when NC finds out you are doing business in the state as an Amazon affiliate. There's a chance (a good chance? who knows?) they will use you to go after Amazon for ALL the uncollected state sales taxes on Amazon sales to NC residents from the time you first moved to NC. NC, after all, believes you create the necessary nexus for Amazon. Then where do you suppose Amazon is going to turn?

      Get competent LEGAL advice.

    Register your business in Nevada and sign up with a "registered agent" company to forward all your mail to you in NC.
