Anyone Using Tumblr For Traffic?

I'm looking for sites other than facebook that I can get some free traffic from.

Have never even thought about using tumblr untill of course I found an interesting thread on another forum that we're not allowed to talk about here.

The thread included posting "mini-blogs" on tumblr with an image, a shortened url attached to the image, and when peope click the image you get paid a very small amount apparently. But its suppose to work better than CPA offers and you're suppose to have better conversions.

Has anyone tried this? Is this a BH method? Does anyone use these shortened urls to make money? I think it takes something like 1000 views to make $4, but if you posted something of a viral nature, I don't see why you couldn't make some cash. Just post some controversial mini-blogs and hope people share them.

Can someone vouch whether this is BH or WH? I found it on a BH forum but it didn't sound BH to me.

I'd be willing to bet it's a method that won't last long.

    However..

I have a buddy in So Cal (lawyer) that uses Tumblr for traffic and he swears by it.

A bit hypothetical, but he's not using images to make his bucks

I have a friend that is using Tumblr to get traffic. I do not use it, however, and don't plan to any time soon. I'm sure it could work.

I can't comment on that particular method but I know that in general, they're not very friendly to affiliate marketers. The method above sounds like it would violate their terms of service.

        From here: Tumblr

"Don't use deceptive means to generate revenue or traffic, or create blogs with the primary purpose of affiliate marketing. Spam doesn't belong on Tumblr."

Here are some threads from WF and 30DC where people's accounts have been suspended for affiliate marketing:

WARNING: Use Tumblr with Caution - Day 14 - Thirty Day Challenge Forums

        http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...suspended.html

        Tumblr account suspended

Which isn't to say that there may not be people who manage to get away with "gaming the system" in the short term, but methods like that on these web 2.0 sites tend to have a short shelf life. They only last until the site catches onto them, which is why BHers are constantly having to come up with new ways to game the sites.

I've been using Tumblr for some time purely as a micro-blogging platform to drive traffic to my other SM channels like my WP blogs, Twitter, FB, G+, YT etc.

I've never had any problems with warnings or account suspensions but then since the site is really just micro-blogging with lots of pics, I have not messed with use it in any way to try and generate revenues.

IMHO there just seems like there are a lot easier ways out there.

Tumblr is good for driving traffic to your main site. I think that's just about it.

I read a while ago that it's possible to have AdSense on Tumblr blogs, as long as this isn't perceived as the whole purpose of the blog. Here's a link to the article concerned: How to Add Google AdSense to Your Tumblr Blog - How-To Geek

And no, I don't have any connection with this site. I just thought it was a really useful, comprehensive article. Doing this is on my list of things to try soon.
