How Do I Set PayPal To NOT Accept eChecks?

I'm trying to eliminate the scammers who pay via eCheck on PayPal to only have it declined days later.

I can't find where i set what payment types are accepted.

Tried preferences and also when setting up payment buttons but unable to figure out if and where this can be done.

Anyone know?

Thanks,

John

use a script that wont allow access until the payment clears

Its pretty easy to do with paypal IPN, LFM wont authorise their login untill it gets the ipn notice from paypal the echeck cleared

      Hi John

You'll find the option in: Profile - Preferences - Selling Preferences.

The only stipulation is that Paypal won't let you refuse eCheques from eBay users.

        Thanks again,

A good question would be- how many sales do you lose by not accepting echecks, compared to the number of bad echecks you get?

And if you're offering a standard refund policy, won't many of the bad echeck writers just buy and refund? Either way, they get the product free.

If I said I'm going to stop accepting credit cards because I got some chargebacks, you'd say that was a pretty bad decision.

If you set up a real merchant paymet account most people will use that. Paypal claims they can increase your sales by 14% but I've checked and I barely get 10% overall sales at all from paypal. BUT I get 70% of my charge backs from paypal.
To me paypal is a loser.

    this is actually odd.
I always get notification if someone occasionally pays with echeck. But they can only download once the check clears. As long as the check is not clear they cant access my stuff. ha.

I take it you are using DLGuard or something similar that doesn't give access until the check clears, since a normal Paypal button will give them instant access after they pay.

    Hi,

You can select paypal only and no e-cheques. I got an email from them this week offering just that and I have copied it below for you, well an extract actually:

Would you rather avoid queues, delays and unnecessary paperwork? Then just say no to cheques on eBay, since they usually involve all of the above!

Nearly all eBay users have a PayPal account, so why not offer PayPal only payment on your listings? Buyers can pay you instantly with PayPal and you get a quick email to tell you the money's there - no queues, no paying-in slips and no waiting for funds to clear.

So you can post your item and move on to the next one, without wasting any time!

When I do my listings I always add on my listing in bold "NO CHEQUES OR E-CHEQUES ACCEPTED"

It works for me. I forgot on a recent listing and wouldn't you know it - someone paid by e-cheque before I realised. Two weeks later it finally cleared!!!

I am only going to accept instant paypal in future.

    Hope this helps

      Ian,

If you've quoted your email correctly, you'll notice it says "cheques" and not "e-cheques". They're referring to standard Bank cheques.

PayPal have a policy that forbids eBay sellers from refusing to accept PayPal e-cheques.

      Just so you know.
