Noticed WhoIs data is wrong... what can I do?

While checking the WhoIs data for a paticular domain name it says the domain's creation date was in 2011. However, when I then check the web archive wayback machine, the domain was being used as far back as 2004 and there's screen captures to prove it.

Why would the WhoIs data be wrong?
Is there any way I can edit the WhoIs record's?

Obviously, an aged domain name has more value and more search engine power so I'd want the earlier date to be stated.

Just had a thought, maybe the domain got dropped for some reason in the past, would this start a brand new creation date in the WhoIs records when it's registered again?

(sorry but I'd rather not post the actual domain name at the moment)

I'm not an SEO Expert, but if you ask me, I'm pretty sure Google doesn't check the WhoIs data when ranking your site, it wouldn't make sense, since the WhoIs data can be changed by the domain company from what I know. So I would say you shouldn't worry about it.

Simple. The domain expired, and was released to the public. That resets the clock for WHOIS age. Meanwhile, services like Archive.org still retail previous data. This happens all the time.

No, you cannot edit the dates in the WHOIS records.
